Just a thought on performance...

There has been a lot of discussion about the mosselman bi-turbo kit for the w124, and some talk about a supercharger kit by kleeman. I have not, however, seen any discussion about stroker kits. I know that a kit is available for the 190 16-valve, but I haven't seen one for the m103 engine. Anyone know of its existance? What kinda performance it would give? A stroker kit would probably be less expensive than a bi-turbo, and be easier on the engine in the long run because you have to replace several key engine components in order to get the modification to work...

About a year or so ago, Jos Bekkers mentioned that he was working on a M103 3.2 stroker good for around 250 HP. Try contacting Bekkers, www.bekkers.com.

Hmmm... well, since I love planning to get stuff (turbos, supercharger, I haven't bought anything yet, and im probably not going to, but whatever) Anyone got any info on stroker kits? Potential damage to the engine? Ive heard that they return terrible gas mileage...

AMG did make several 3.6 liter M103's. I think this was the early years before the C36. I'd bet that there are some cranks and rods and pistons sitting somewhere.

I have no proof of the following but I got this info from David Girgen (used to own Impco before it was bought by Performance Products) and who had a 3.6 liter M103 in a very modified 190E. RennTech built that engine using a 603 diesel crank in a M103/M104 block and 90mm pistons. I cannot confirm that that's how it is done but it seems reasonable and logical...food for thought!

After speaking with Doc, he said that the 104 and 103 are almost identical in the bottom end. If this is the case, You could get a C36 crank and rods and pistons...All should fit perfectly, but will cost big money.

Both RennTech and Brabus do a 3.6 liter upgrade for the M103 engine.

The Brabus conversion is about $10K, RennTech about $14K.

RennTech claims 255HP & 264 ft-lb torque for the M103 engine. 281HP & 276 ft-lb torque for the M104 engine.

FWIW, David Girgen sold his 3.6-liter M103 engine for approx. $5K last year.
