500E: To Badge or Not to Badge?
Just had some work done to my decklid and they had to remove the 500E badge. The new badge had to be shipped from Germany, so right now my car is badgeless, and it looks kinda cool.
My question to you fellow enthusiasts: Should I retain this stealth look or not? So few people know what this car is any way, to put it back is to wear a badge of honor, so to speak. Without, it looks cleaner, and the people who DO know what a 500E is certainly don't need a badge to help them identify it--those sexy flared fenders are unmistakable! Your thoughts? Leave it off but get a new one in case you ever sell the car.
You are right, anyone who cares will know what the cars is, with or without badges. |

I will soon be de-badging mine as well. Looks much cleaner, and less to wax around.

I thought the same thing about waxing--such a pain trying to get all that wax out of every nook and cranny!

personally i like the clean de-badged look, i've even de-badged my explorer.
my 300e is de-badged, but i haven't de-badged the 400e [yet]. i too like the stealth look... could it be de-badging is only done to 4 or 6 cylinder cars, NOT V-8's?

I generally think debadging gives a clean look, but I am actually against it in this case.
500E's are special cars, and they deserve to wear the badge. It is an honor and a privelege to own and drive such a rare car, and I can't conceive of any other car where the owner of such a classic, rare vehicle would consider removing the badge.

That's the wrong side. Badges are on the left.

You are right though, NO mistaking the stance of the 500!

500E's are special cars and there should be no doubt to anyone as to what they are. I am for leaving the badge on. The badge is like the notches on a gunslinger's pistol grip. It lets everyone know just how "BAD" you are!
P.S One of these days I hope to join the 500E posse!

I saw a W124 E500 a few weeks back that had been badged E200 (a not uncommon model in the UK).
Must be fun that . Russell
