C36 manual or E55 tipronic.

Guys,
I need some opinions,Iv sold the turbo setup but cant decide on a new engine.

Iv had a look at 95/96's C36's for a donor, there pretty rough and most need a lifter job, pretty much everything plastic in the engine bay is broken on all, if i was to go this route i would keep the manual and attempt to make it work with the VDO ecu. 97 C36 would be more ideal but are rear and cost almost as much as a C43 here.
Does anyone here know if there is any mechanical differences in the 95/96 to 97 M104 3.6?...the 97 is said to have ~10hp more,is this increase mapping changes?

Iv also looked at cheap 2000 W210 E55's with auto/tiptronic,and i think i could get all that in the 202 including that massive diff with some persuasion in the way of modified custom everything, exhaust and wiring
work. 520NM is tempting.

opinions?

Cheers!,
Paul

If u can make it work, take the V8
The M104 AMG is the sweetest I6 ever made by merc, but it aint perfect. Its a sweet car to have a 36 engine and manual trans, will make for a quick lively ride for sure, but the V8 is lighter more powerful engine that sits mostly behind the front suspension. IE better handling.

there is no differece between the M104 AMGs of any year. the 10hp is more of a marketing issue, done by better cats at best. my 95 AMG came with an AMG tag saying 206kw@5750

"some mods improve your car and make it into something it never was, other mods, however, although essentially the same, are not, and make that car a ricer"

if your car isnt shiny, you dont know what you are talking about, remember; paint shine = knowledge. In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading).
Dont forget to polish it often

The main differences from a '97 model engine are that the flywheel is different for 60-2 teeth and sensors and other simple items. You can use the flywheel of the stock m111 engine in your car on any inline motor.
The 5.5 motor would be great but if you plan on using the stock tcu a fair amount of wiring will be required and the stock engine management and shifter. Your traction module should work ok. The final drive ratios have to match also. So the diff is a must. The diff should bolt in but the axles are going to be different.
You are basically making a c43 with a 5.5 conversion though.

Thanks guys you have confirmed everything i needed,V8 it is!.

The E55 swap will take some time especially all the wiring and diff/axle setup, the E55 diff has 1 bush mounted way out to one side for support,202's dont have that bush holder...
The other option was to buy a C43 and drop in the 55 but it would work out too expensive + my chassis is a none accident minta with new everything everwhere,it would be way to sad to let it go!.

So i'll sell my manual setup i guess.

Thanks,
Paul

Hey,
Iv gone away from the M111 because im practically married and cant justify the costs involved with tuning the stand alone anymore.the only way out was to sell my parts and use that money to buy another engine - stock setup ftw.

Cheers!,
Paul
