exhaust muffler suggestions

Looking to get an aftermarket muffler for my coupe because the one on there has a couple holes. I want to have a nice throaty sound that will give me some performance gains but nothing too crazy or ricey. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. I plan on running either 2" or 2.5" inch piping. I will also be welding it up myself from the headers back eliminating all cats with just one muffler at the end.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

I think you should leave the catalyst in the car. It's there for a reason.

The guy who owned the car before me had them deleted and put in two straight pipes to the rear mufflers. And he was the old grandpa type who only drove the car around town lol

So i just figured i would leave them out, plus in florida there are no emissions tests or state inspections

I hate having to be the one to get on the soapbox but there is no excuse for driving a car on the street without a catalyst. This isn't 1974 and catalysts aren't the restrictive pellet type that was demonized back then. Modern catalysts are efficient and free flowing and the notion that their absence is going to free up some insane amount of power is a fallacy. WHat's not a fallacy is the fact that the car will spew HC and NOX into OUR air without one.

I'm all for power, I've modded the hell out of my Benz but it still exhales through a catalyst. When it was emission tested 2 mos ago it met the "Fast Pass" criteria.

Sorry for the rant, and don't take it personally, but please do take it to heart.

Here's an excuse: They aren't there and he doesn't want to pay for them.

Remus and Supersprint are pretty much the top of the line. Magnaflows can be made to sound nice, but they can also come out like sounding broken and I don't know of any magic formula for getting it dialed in right. You may want a resonator to clean up rasp in any case.

Sure. But before you do that, check out ebay, for the remus muffler. I just ordered the universal Sport label or whatever they name it, under $200 if I recall. The downside is it had to come from Greece and took almost 2 months to receive due to shipping, for some reason. Whatever, something to consider if you're just going to get universal, I'd imagine it's worth it for the good stuff. I've never been particularly impressed with Borla.

I previously had just a straight pipe and muffler on my 190E. It was pretty loud. Especially in the cabin.

I got tired of that so I got a new muffler and resonator...Heres what I have on my 190E 3.0 right now.

Sure they're cheap. But they sound pretty good and do their job well enough for me.

I'd go with the remus if you can get one at the right price. My 300e has no cat, the resonator has been straight piped, and a remus back box fitted. This gives the m103 a nice deep note, and it also rev's alot more freely. My 3.6-24 m104 has had the same treatment but this time with a remus back box from a diesel golf. (realy deep tone with that!)
