M103 2.6 190e '91
I am swapping my auto tranny for a manual 5 spd in my 190E 2.6. So while there is down time I want to do some engine work. I have 180k miles and the motor is strong but I want to shore up some minor oil drippage.
Everything is new: alt.,water pump, power steering pump, hoses, rad. dipped, tensiner & shock, all new suspension bushings, flex disks, struts and springs(bilstein eibach, stainless brake lines, rotors, steering dampener tie rods, draglink, control arm bushings, and so on. All with less 10k miles. I'll be doing the timing chain next with the head and bottom end work. I am geting rid of the fan shroud in favor of a lager radiator w/o the tranny cooler. I want HP. Possibly a 3.0l head on the 2.6 bottom end? Hot Cam? Crank? Extrude hone? No forced induction. Head work preferable. Increase in compression 11:1. Does anyone know the stock lift and duration on the 2.6L M103? 3.0L M103. Valve clearance. Max lift. Any suggestions. I am looking into a different rear end. |

I did it the easy way
I bought one
As far as more HP I believe the difference between the 2.6 and 3.0 M103 is only the bore. I'm thinking you could just bore it out. The heads may even be the same. Where are you getting the standard parts?

The junk yard source is www.car-part.com. It is the on-line inventory of 350 junk yards with prices.

There are not much HP to gain staying with the 2.6 liter displacement. Accoring to Renntech, a sport cam would net about 15 hp on the 2.6, 25 hp with ported/polished head and sport camshaft and 47 hp if you increase diplacement to 3.0 and 97 hp if displacement is increased to 3.6l. For the 3.6l upgrade (14k BTW) Renntech recommends transmission upgrades and cooling upgrades (probably larger radiator)

Clarification
Is 47hp from the 3.0L only with cam, port, and polish. Thats 232hp alone! W/a manual it should be good for 240hp. That's +8hp, at least, over the auto 185hp stock M103 w/auto tranny for just the manual swap plus 47hp for the head work. I am asumming. These are real good numbers, if the info you received is right. Do you have details on the cam or port specs?

Th 2.6 motor puts out 158 hp in stock form, the 3.0 puts out 178 in stock form, 20 hp more.
Contact Bob at Renntech, he is the one that provided me with the info, no specifics about the port/polish or cam specs, just a list of what they do and HP/Torque gains. |
