Perhaps this might be the solution to the u joint problem.

FYI

Too many calls on this.

* FastLane does NOT sell this unit or anything like it.

* NO, kits like these are not recommended for an average daily driver.

* Yes, this one does work as advertised.

* Yes, it is an EXTREME high performance kit.

* Yes, there are several similar kits on the Internet, and I have no opinion on good/bad quality = buyer beware.

That is a cool setup for drag racing.I was thinking driveshaft safety hoop.
I drag maybe 3 times a year,3 races each.

I guess this leaves just enough of a gap for the disc to still flex, but probably not enough for driving on rough surfaces?

Dearlove, did someone actually make that? I contacted prothane about a month ago hoping to find one of theirs that might work but no luck.

yep, you can buy a set (2 flex discs) for $218 USD, but i think he's getting a batch made of a heap of his stuff now, so you may be able to get your name on the list if you act quick enough.

his email is stupid_fast@hotmail.com

I don't understand the need for flex disk.The rear end is bolted down.

The body flexes and the engine moves.

I could almost guarantee I can beat $218 a set, made from aluminum. But how much interest actually exists for these?

I seriously doubt aluminum will work for the transmission output on most MB.

* Space limits.
* Structural strength.

It works for GTO's and Chargers, Camaros, etc. And the disc would actually be smaller.

Na, AL alloys now a days are stronger than you think. Stronger than rubber at least... :cool: 5051 would be a good alloy for a flex disc replacement with poly inserts. If it's good enough for gear teeth, it's good enough for a driveshaft.

Dearlove 09-24-2011 08:13 AM

they're called flex disc's... for a reason

Uh, yeah,,, duh. I think we are discussing off-road use here. OE stock is best left for daily driver stuff, hands down. Now, if your running a 450hp SCCA track car. you need something better.
