3.5 L head upgrades

Look to rebuild my heads on my 350 SLC 3.5 L, 116 engine. Does anyone have suggestions on possible upgrades to the heads?

Can they be ported?
Can they make use of intake match to ports?
Is a 3 angle value job any use?
Would a new grind on new cams help any at all?
Are there any headers on the market for these models?

This is the 4 bolt main engine with the coated intake and double timming chain. Actually just needed value seals, but wanted to go all out and take them off to up performance a little. She is a little screamer right now, you know how this goes, always looking for more. Street driven daily, just passed 100,000 miles. Looking to take to the track every once in awhile.

4:10 rear gear
4 speed auto

Thank you,
Tim/ Atlanta GA area

There are many things you could do to your head. But I would first start by measuring the piston to head clearance with the head gasket.

If the value is larger than 0.035" then I would send your head gasket to Cometic and have them make you a multipiece steel gasket that is thinner. If you tighten up the squish area in the head it will give the engine opportunity to have more complete A/F burn. So you get higher compression and better A/F burn which gives more power.

To the head I would replace the valves and get a good 3 angle valve job and have them just clean up rough casting areas in the ports and remove any raised areas at the port/valve seat area.

Also take out any material in the head camber that may be shrouding the valves when they are open.

Next measure your cams. Do this before you remove the head.

If the opening and closing numbers on the Intake and Exhaust cam are bad then find a way to change the timing to a better figure.

Do all the above and your car will run like its never run before with lots of snap and low end power which extends all the way to the top of the rpm band.

Jeff
