E320 Cabriolet Project

First post in a really long time. Just wanted to try and start a thread about my new project. Its a 95' E320 Cab with 102k on it. Car is pretty sound mechanically, still checking it over. Got boxes full of goodies though. The vision is somewhat of a Hammer style clone. Have a Hammer style body kit at the body shop now. Came across an O.E. Hammer 3 piece spoiler. I have a nice set of Ronal 16x7 and 16x9 wheels. Have been in contact with Jono at BlueRidgeMB about engine options as the 104 just doesnt have quite enough. Will post pictures when I figure out how get the file size down.

Difficult to do a Hammer clone on a A124 for many reasons..
You can't "clone" something that never existed...

If you have an original "Hammer" body kit which is doubtful, it is close to the GEN I AMG kit but with a 0.25Cd
The early kit was never installed on the facelift bodies.
You have an OEM Hammer three piece spoiler ( ducktail ? ). hopefully it was for a C124 as the W124 ducktail will not fit your A124.
Even with the correct contour of the C124 ducktail it will cover your trunk mounted brake light.

The 16x7 and 16x9 Ronal ( Pentas? ) wheels also are wrong as the Hammer used 17x8 Aero I's and the Wide body Hammer coupe had 17x8 and 17x10 Aero I 3 piece.

Best case you are building an A124 with a mismatched body kit and wheels.

Why not build an E36 clone using the correct GEN II kit, a C36 engine and you will have something of value because there was such a thing as an E36 Cabriolet !

Seriously!!! How bout you put the fine tooth comb away and just appreciate the fact that someone else is enjoying modifying a 124. It has nothing do to with "something of value". It is about turning it into what I want it to be.

What do the wheels look like?

I wanted to take the m104 out of my cabrio and put a super turbo om606 under the hood, to be different.

The M104 does have a good amount of power. The 3.6 version has more and gets the job done.

I think most of use here just don't want to see a nice example of a low production number car get hacked and possibly left for dead. But hey, it's your car, your money, and your vision.

How are the hydros doing for the top?

I will post a picture of the wheels when I get a chance. They are in the warehouse on the shelf. Still trying to figure out the tire sizes. Found them in the U.K. and they were just completely refinished!!

Thank you for your post about the concerns. I can understand a post like that more than one picking apart my plans for my car. I am a Mercedes master tech of 10+ years, I promise it is not being hacked up. I am going for a very clean look, defenitely modified but subtle enough that the average onlooker would thank it was an MB original. I just got the cluster put back together (the speedo needle rest was broken off in shipping) and I will post pictures when I get it reinstalled.

The hydros are ok. I have replaced two rams already. I am smelling hydraulic fluid again put I dont know if it is just residual or I have another leak.

"Seriously"....turn it into whatever you want as that is what life is about..
Not criticizing you, just commenting on your concept.
But don't call it something that it is not which is the only point that I'm making..
Many kitted out 124's and most look great...!!!
You mentioned Jono and I'm sure his position on the use of "Hammer clone" would be even more rigid then mine...just ask him....!!!

I guess I always look at "value" when I use hard earned monies to modify a car...prefer to get something out of what I put in...
Build a car like a kid does and when it comes time to sell you only get "kid money" that is interested in purchasing...
I mentioned an E36 A124 clone, something that never was sold in the USA...do it as correct as possible, as it doesn't cost anymore to replicate then to randomly customize a car.
You'll then have a rare, excellent performing and well balanced vehicle at much less cost then a M117 or M119 transplant, that will command top dollar as it will appeal to a more serious class of buyer

A few more pics. I got the cluster back together and the lens looked like it had some smudges on it. I got out the glass cleaner and I couldnt get the smudges off. I guessed they were on the inside so I took it back apart and cleaned the inside. Wont come off from the inside either. I got a second opinion and he seems to think he can feel it on the outside. I am guessing I just couldnt see the smudges with the black gauges but with the white faces they really show up. Going to try to put some polish on it, if that doesnt help will be looking for a donor lens.

Does anyone know where I can find lowering springs for this? I have found lowering springs but of course they all say no convertibles
