You can get custom welded up and ground camshafts for less. I am sending my m104 cams out soon to WEB CAMS. I got quoted 700.00 for two cams. Then it is just how far do you want to go with it with springs and valve to piston clearance etc.

Whipple I don't know if you plan on going to solid lifters, but if so take a look at post 98 DOHC H4 Subaru buckets. They're the same diameter and if they're thinner (haven't gotten any to check yet) you could improve valve geometry pretty drastically along with running far more aggressive ramp angles.

Do you have to go with stiffer springs after putting in the the cams? Different valves?

It just depends. Spring rate has to be high enough to get the valves closed if going with a pretty radical cam. If you are going to go for a mild cam then not so much. You should have some springs checked though to get the rate. They also do wear out over the years.
How high of rpms do you want to go? This is mostly stuff that you need to discuss with the cam company and your local engine builder about. A good engine builder can really guide you through this.

3.6 M103 tidbit

Just for s&*%$ and giggles, I emailed Oettinger to ask them about their M103 3.6 conversion and this was their response:

Dear Mr. Smith,

thank you very much for your email request.
We also wish you a Happy New Year.

I forwarded your email to my colleague from the technical department.
He gave me the following feedback.

The Company OETTINGER / OKRASA rebuild the 300 DB from 3.0 Liter to 3.6 Liter with its own crankshaft 94.5 mm stroke and a piston diameter of 90.00 mm. The cylinder head has been expanded and polished, a separate camshaft was installed,
The series connecting rods were changed in the connecting rod eye so the piston / crankshaft etc. fit. The engine block and oil pan were processed on parole. We don’t have any further information or documentation. We don’t offer these parts for at least 15 years.

Sorry that I don’t have better news for you. I hope we were able to help you a little anyways.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
With best regards

Sharon Brandimarti
