M120 Conversion Thread

Ah my spelling got me I cant fix the spelling in the title

Apparently there seams to be significant interest in M120 conversions as I have been bombarded with question from various people all in the last 2 weeks. Years ago I asked the moderator to lock up the M120 into 560SL thread as the project was complete and I didn't want to have a good build thread to become polluted and hijacked. So the thread is still available as an excellent reference see the third link below. And this thread can now serve as a place for new concepts and technical exchange.

The M120 powered 107 is alive and well and performing flawlessly.

It all started with a hypothetical what if question on this board:

It ended up as reality:

And some info on big breaks for the 107:

By Passing DAS (Driver Authorization System)

I'm putting up this post because 3 people in the last month have asked me how to get around DAS.

This is how DAS can be removed from a generation 2 infrared type system. Possibly the gen 3 transponder systems can be bypassed the same way.

Basically it is necessary to start with a running engine turn off the engine and never lock the car. That will leave the Gen 2 system in the authorized mode then disconnect the wires to the DAS module as stated in this thread. Note there are certain wires that will still need to be connected and communicate with the engine ECU. The DAS modules and Engine ECU are coded together and need to stay together.

For the Gen 3 systems I'm guessing the same thing can be gone only the wires from the transponder will need to be disconnected while the engine is running. Not sure if the Gen 3 systems also use the infrared signals so possibly both need to be disconnected. I have not tried this out but if anyone has a gen 3 system with the instrument cluster out, perhaps they can give this a try and let us know. Disconnect the transponder wire with the engine running. Turn off the engine and try a restart with the wire disconnected. Then if that works lock the car with the infrared system by sticking the key out the window aimed at the lock and try to restart the car again. If the car starts the theory will be proved.

I attached a picture of a gen 3 module with the transponder wire connected. This is the wire that will need to be removed with the engine running.
