W126 performance mods

I have an 86 420SE euro with 165,000 miles on it. Whenever it blows, I am going to put a new 300hp euro 560 motor in it, but for right now I just want to "optimize" my current engine, if you will, and get as much performance out of it without doing anything too crazy. This is what I am going to do to it, and I am inviting any opinions of whether what I am doing is good or not, or if there is anything I can do better or if there is something I missed that I can do to it. I am going to put a Flex-a-lite dual 12" 2500 CFM electric fan on it, a K&N filter, a Jacobs Ultra Team performance ignition (control box, coil, plug wires) and better plugs (I am hoping this will also smooth out the idle), and a completely new stainless 2" exhaust (dual pipes as it is now in euro form) from the manifolds back with a Random Technology High Flow cat, no center mufflers and a performance rear muffler on which I have not decided yet (help!). I was thinking about an AMG of a wrecked E55 or a Remus, but those are insanely priced. I am wanting something a little less expensive if possible. Also, I want the exhaust sound to be somewhat conservative, I don't want this to be a Camaro and I don't want to be able to hear it inside the car. Any suggestions on this or on anything else I have said? Thank you in advance for any help.

Suggest to consider replacing existing viscofan with a 16" electric suction one activated by 100C thermoswitch. But you will have to modify or replace pump thermostat to close bypass flow (to avoid engine running too hot). You might wish to consider DirectHits (www.directhits.com). Have done this on my car.

Kind of OT

I was looking at www.mbcoupes.com and saw that one of the owners swapped in a 92 500SL engine into his 560SEC. Could this be done in a 85' 500SEL? I was thinking about this, the engine would be around 6-7k but I have no idea what the labor would be for this. I suppose I would need some of the electronics too.
