Performance Enhancements for an 86 190E 2.3 16V

Hello, I am looking for anyone who has done some successful, fairly cheap performance enhancements to their 190 16V. I have just recently had some bady work done on the car to have some rust removed from a few places. I am planning on putting in a K&N filter as soon as i can get one, but other than that i was wondering if anyone has made any other fairly cheap (under $1,000) enhancements to the car, everything on it is the stock Euro model.

have a custom exhaust built. it will be cheaper than buying a vehicle specific one. 2.5" pipe, high flow cat (promuffler.com) no mid muffler, universal performance muffler (try borla or brospeed).

remove the R-16 resistor and run 93 R+M/2 gas (do a search).

consider a jacobs coil, controller, wires, and some bosch copper plugs.

that's about all you can do for cheap. anything else involves engine internals or forced induction.

Hey Jason Thanks

I just put in the copper plugs a few days ago, my father found out that those were the choice plugs for that car. But i have been having a lot of trouble lately with the car the #1 cylinder is not firing. We have done a ton of work on it and it looks right now like the head is coming off and new valve seats are going in. Any suggestions while i have the head off.

you can have the head ported and polished or just smooth any rough areas. cosworth did a good job with this head so there isn't too much room for improvement though.
