As we speak, a PPI is being done by a MB dealer on a 500E I have made an offer on. Is there anything specific to this car that I need to ask about, other than the usual (PS pump, wiring harness, radiator, a/c, radio).

Have him drive it on a rough road and see if any noise emanates from the rear hydro-struts (shocks)-many of us have had 1 go bad.

Have him check the steering rack for leaks. How do the driveshaft flex couplings look? Rear diff. bushings? They take a pounding on a 500

Rear sunshade work? Do the rear headrests drop?

Ask him to give you a report on the diagnostic memory. And if you want to spend a little more, have him check the timing chain stretch.
