Cure for w123 body roll/lean

Hi guys and girls

I tried something this weekend and I am very happy with the results. I am sure most of you have heard of strut tower bars. For those that haven't, they are bars that connect the left and right strut towers to prevent body flexion whilst cornering. Not to be confused with sway bars. You can buy them or if you are cheap like me then you can use your home welder and angle grinder to make your own. So I opened the boot looking for the rear struts. Me no find. Took out the back seats and found them under some plastic covers. I really thought this was not going to work coz the bars are not attached to the strut towers themsevles but rather to the adjacent metal. I welded my bars up. The lower bar was 86mm long with 1 inch stubs welded on for mounting of bolts. The upper bar was 87mm long with 1inch stubs welded on the ends.see pictures attached. Anyways, I am so happy with how flat and sharply the car corners. Bear in mind that the sway bar bushes need replacing but even so, the rear body lean is almost completely eliminated. Going to make one for the front struts soon.

Fha772 brought to my attention that I may have joined the spring towers. But I think it works in settling and distributing the weight more evenly between the two spring towers. I may just do another bar slightly higher up where the shocks mount. But I'm definately going to make a bar or two for the front coz it feels sloppy compared to the rear now. Oh yes and I'm working on a rear wing out of sheet metal for high speed stability. But a rear wing is very controversial. Some love it, others hate it.

Oh btw yzn. Look what you have inspired me to do. Its not 100 percent complete but almost there. Still fabricating an airbox coz the intake is on the exhaust side.

Wow that's something. What angle did you use? I read somewher that 7 - 10 degrees is best compromise between downforce and aerodynamics

That's an interesting contraption on the rally car. Looks like a mould that connects the bars to the top of the strut. Now I know where to mount my bars. Thanks

Yo yzn. Ever considered dual charging and water meth? Have your supercharger blow into a t3 t4 turbo that runs off the last two cylinders. You could modify your existing exhaust manifold to make it fit

^actually yes , i have already got nozzle and water pump to test pre-compressor water injection, the problem is that the pump work on 24v.

twincharge too, i got a turbo from rb25 nissan engine, but best is to run turbo blowing into the supercharger (that thing i have to try ,maybe next year) but now i'm working on putting bigger supercharger (toyota sc14) with more boost hope the engine can handle it (i just love instant boost)

Nice idea.

If you wanted to go from shock mount to shock mount I reckon you might have a better chance by removing the fuel tank...

...if I remember correctly there's a bit of space between the tank and the underside of the parcel / hat (!) shelf.

Yes army, you do remember correctly. There is some space. But a small amount. Means fabricating a bar with angles and draining the tank n stuf. I wasn't in the mood for that much effort on a sunday. Lol. That would be the best way to do it. But it worked this way so I'm happy.

It does take a little bit more effort to get in there doesn't it?

I've been playing around (in my head) with an idea of a three point seat belt for some time now. It looks like the children will have grown up by the time I get round to doing it though...

3 Point back seat belt in the middle (W123 300D)

...still it could stiffen up that part of the body quite nicely.

(There are some pictures in the thread linked above that might be of use to people thinking about stiffening W123 sedan body structures)
