Question E500 Frt Brakes on Rear?

If I upgrade my front brakes to new units from Movit, is there a way to salvage my 4 piston SL600 front brake calipers and mount them on the rear? The rotors would be a bonus, but from a first look (and no dimensionalized drawings) I would expect this to be an even large undertaking. I realize that it may be a nightmare, but those calipers are mighty expensive (and high quality) and hate to see them going unused or being forced to sell them off as used units.

Anyone try something similar?

Thanks in advance........

They wouldn't fit without extensive modification. would you be interested in selling them maybe? Let me know.

Steve,

HUGE modifications if you do as you propose.

You can likely get pretty good money for your calipers, so selling them to help offset your new system cost is really the best way to go-your rear calipers are up to their task as they are.

And I'm interested in them-my '92 500E has the smaller brakes

It would be cheaper just to buy new 600SL rear brakes they are not "that" expensive, and would not require extensive modifications, and they come with a 300mm vented rotor.

I would not be surprised if you could sell your old 600SL calipers and rotors for the price of the new rears, which would make it a straight swop.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I had a dumb idea - sounds like the best bet (for the rears) is to see if the 600SL rear vented rotors and hubs would work.

After some conversations with Michael, I have decided to save the money on the oil and tranny cooler (I am in the process of converting over to syntetics on both) and look into the brake situation. In my searching I discovered that Fischer Hydraulik (the company who supplies the braided lines in the Movit kit) also resells the Movit brake kits in Germany. After checking on the conversion rate, it looks like it would be a $2200 ticket for the 330x34 rotors with the Porsch monoblock 4 piston calipers. They will not export as this would undermine Ultimate Gargae here in the US who is the exclusive distributor. If they would sell them to me the next time I get over to Germany I could save close to $800 on the front kit.

If I go for it I will keep you all in mind regarding resale of the 600SL calipers off of my car (they are in "new" condition).

Thanks agian for the input.
