Thumbs up I've got about 10-14 more HP for under $100!

Hello guys!
I thought I'd spread a little info about an experience I had with my '86 560...one of my buddies at work (that has a 560 SEC) asked me to do a tune-up on his baby which I agreed and upon removing the air duct fittings for inspection, we noticed this little insert that was installed inside of the duct going to air filter/throttle body. I asked him if he had it installled and he said it must have come with the car. With that said, I told him that this little insert supposedly helps the car's air mixture flow a lot more effeciently and boosts his hp (I'd heard about the product but never could remember what the name was).Of course he didn't believe it so the following week we took it to another friend's shop to do the dyno and sure enough, when I took the insert out the horses were a tad under 14 hp less than it was with it.

Of course I had to insert it into mine (since we have the same engine, what the hell) and we ran the dyno with my 560 before the insert and after the insert in which the throttle response was like woa and the horses went up 13 and some change (I'm assuming it was going to also go up to 14) before we quit. Needless to say, I did the homework (and my buddy who owns the shop had already heard about this product and has recommended it like forever because he used it for one of his old RV's he used to have to increase the gas mileage) and found out the name of the product is the TORNADO and it seems to have an informercial to boot, so I'll look out for that too.I found the company's info and just ordered my own for under $90 and it claims to also help with gas mileage improvement (not to mention my shop buddy says he noticed a very significant increase in power, response of throttle under load and gas mileage.

Believe me, I'm not an infomercial type person but after I saw this with my own eyes I'm sold! I also just went to their website and read the testimonials, etc and saw the video of installation (which was soooo simple) and reviews.I'm suprised I hadn't heard about this on this site but I guess that's why I'M sharing it with my MB brothers! Is there anyone else that has ever used this product and what hp gains have you achieved? I even talked to one of the reps who told me that one of the autos on their infomercial used was an MB (I think it was a 126 too because he says it was an older S Class type car that drinks the crap out of gas!) Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know and will update you when my new TORNADO gets here

Keep us updated. I've got an '85 380SE and would love to find out about more bolt-on power gains, any are always welcome with 155 stock hp out of an OHC 3.8 liter V8 (embarrasing, but I've got a custom exhaust which seems to help a good deal and sounds good to boot).

I have heard of it but never really knew if it worked. I might try one for the 500SEL.

umm wow... I always thought these things were a crock, like those magnetic fuel economizers. Please keep us posted, as 10-15 hp for $100 is one of the cheapest mods you can do to an old benz. I still don't understand how this thing would work, as creating a vortex in your intake shouldn't do anything except force turbulent air throught the throttle body, which.... shouldn't do anything for anyone. But hey, if it works, it works! (Btw... didn't they sell these things like crazy during the oil crisis? I wouldn't know, as I wasn't exactly around at the time...)

The infomercial show them getting 220hp out of a GM over 200hp without the gizmo, but the RPMs are at about 6500 to get that. It seems to me these things would really only help marginally if at all in normal driving.

they sell them at jcwhitney too.

Saw it there for $65.00 for one.

Might be cheaper from the manufacturer, but thought I'd share that.

I had this thing installed on my 89 300e 4 or 5 years ago, can not really feel a difference now, but my mechanic did say they can feel the differnce by comparing with the other 300e's at their shop. I am getting 20 mpg+/- on the freeway

Well, the tornado arrived yesterday and I'll probably get to installing it in a few days.I'm really not worried about the extra horses as much as I am the mileage increase at this point. I'm pretty much gonna document how many more miles (if any) I get on a tank of gas with it installed as opposed to without it (I just filled her up and I usually get a little over 300 or so miles on a tank so I'll record what I get with this tank and THEN install it and record the difference). I guess we'll see what hapens.

Hell I wish I did get it for FREE or had someone who worked there to give me one to "test" but fortunately most techs have heard about it and have recommended it also... Nothing to lose except wasting $ for all that gas when I can get a bit more mileage (should pay for itself with just that)

When you get that installed let me know how it goes. I have an 89 300SEL and have been looking for HP upgrades for cheap, sounds good, and if it improves gas milage the slightest bit, i'm in. Please keep us updated.
