M104 Engine Oil Cooler retrofit (E320/C36, etc.)
Going through the MB factory Service Manual for the M104 engine, and I noticed that on the R129 series (300SL), the M104 engine was setup with an engine oil cooler.
Has anyone retrofited one of these? Why only on the R129 and not the the W124 E320's or the C280/C36? Would it be wise to install one? Thanks again, :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E Here's an image link of the setup: http://www.silcom.com/~neilv/sportli...oil-cooler.jpg |
I think I have the oil line coming out from the engine and looping around cooling fans. So if everything is already led out, it seems to be an easy installation. What would this achieve though ?
Cooler engine temps. ? Where could we strap it ? |
Dmitry- are you talking about the cooling line in front of the aux. fans (front of radiator/condenser)?
If so, that line is for powersteering cooling. :-) neil |
Oooops :)

I thought that all M104s had an oil cooler. I know that my 97 C280 and the 97 E320 had them, I would assume the C36 has it too.
The oil cooler on these vehicles is a oil-coolant heat exchanger deal that is located under the oil filter housing in the back of the engine. |
