Removing rear resonator on 126
My mechanic said he'd remove them for $20. I'm planning on putting a remus muffler on their at some point, but until then, how will my car sound with no resonator and a stock muffler?

Why bother removing them? The resonators are designed to remove annoying frequencies from the exhaust charge, the rear muffler does the majority of the sound damping. If you want to increase the noise then the rear muffler is the place to do it. I have had a custom system made for my 560 and it sounds great, I used a reasonably common (in NZ) rear muffler for similar sized engines from a sportscar shop.

I agree with matt. I put on a rear muffler, universal Arospeed. car sounds great, and looks great too.
I believe the resonator is after the cats before the muffler on most mercedes. While my car is not a V-8, my car sounds sweet as hell now. IF you really want to gett he car to sound amazing, I say go to a custom muffler shop and tell them how you want it to sound, they can put together a nice custom system for you, either a whole cat back system, or just replace the muffler and go with some tips. My brother had his range rover done with magnaflow rear muffler, and it sounds well better than most hot rods I have ever heard. and his car is a stock rover with a custom muffler and tips. Sound is just sweet. Alon

I just want a deeper sound + it will take 50 lbs off of my car. When I eventually put on a Remus I will take off my rear resonators for sure. For now I just want to know how my car would sound without resonators on a stock exhaust.

I want to take of my resonators, but for a different reason. I want more flow, while still having a pretty quiet system. I am thinking that the removal might give the stock muffler a little more growl, but not much...which is what I want. I am also wanting to do this in addition to a high flow cat and true duals. Is my thinking right here?

I got the advice from Stummala in this thread Exhaust for V8 126
According to him it seems to be the way to go. All I'm wondering is my car will sound like crap without the resonators on a stock exhaust.
