M110, EFI/electronic ignition trigger wheel info needed!!!

Hi all,

I'm just starting to plan changing my W123 280E to electronic ignition, with a view to going for EFI at a later stage.
The main sticking point I have is the size, and mounting of the trigger wheel, and crank sensor.

Has anyone here fitted a trigger wheel to their M110?
Have you any pictures?
Is there anything that you wished you'd done?

The reason I'm doing this is, I never seem to stop chasing gremlins in the ignition system, so I've decided it's now time for the distributor ignition system to go.

Cheers Frank.

I've been mulling over the same problems with my M110.

How are you planning on triggering the ignition? What type of ignition system? What spark/timing controls are you planning on using?

Due to the lack of clearance between the belts and the dampener the easiest way (bolting on a trigger wheel between the pulley hub and the dampener) to fit a trigger wheel is out.

Another way is to mount a trigger wheel in front of the pulley using spacers. I've seen one done and it looks gawd-awful. I can't imagine its life span being great as the bracket for the pick-up is sticking out into space just begging for something to be propelled by the fan blades into it.

Another option is to actually machine the dampener.

You could either cut "teeth" into the dampener or machine a ring into the outer surface and attach an existing trigger wheel.

Here's a link to one solution. Looks crude but it seemed to work.

It's about the eighth post down.

I'm getting ready to plot out the dampener for machining. Would you like a copy of the CAD model? In metric or Imperial (inches)?

This will be for the "36-1" trigger wheel.

Finding the time has been my biggest drawback to the project.

My M110 is already using the Megasquirt for fuel and so the ignition conversion is simplified (you know those words WILL come back to haunt me).
