Turbo=centrifugal supercharger??
Just a basic question. Aside from one being exhaust driven and one off the crank
are turbo's and centrifugal superchargers basically the same thing ?? Reason for asking, setting up a CS seems so much simpler but turbo's, used, are so much cheaper. Could you add a belt drive to a turbo and have a CS?? The power band on the CS is exactly what I want (passing, freeway on-ramps etc,) and I understand about parasitic lose. Any comments appreciated. |

I think a supercharger would be easier to add,no welding of exhaust manifold.just fab a pulley system and mounting.turbo though runs off the exhaust.I'm looking at supercharging a m104,least amount off work.Still firing added injectors,will be hard to figure out.

You can't turn a turbo into a supercharger if that is what you are asking.

Thanks for responding. Should have done more homework. Obviously a CS requires a gearbox to get the impellor up to speed. Oh well.
