Wink AMG C43 - just wondering if this is my home?

Hi everyone. I'm a proud new owner of a '99 C43. I'm a die-hard car nut and techie (e.g., I change my own oil and plugs on my '98 911).

Is this forum (hot-rods) the right one for AMG owners?

BTW, the guy I bought my Porsche from had a 500E. I tried to buy that from him last year; no luck!

Thnaks,

John

Thumbs up

Congrats on the nice aquisition...and of course you are at home here in the Hot-Rod section. Hope you share your experiences with that fine machine. What color is it? Post a pic.

Smile Me too!

Hi,

Nice to join you all here. (c43amg, hope you didn't mind the private message I sent you 1st - I didn't know this message was here on this board).

I have a '98 Silver C43 myself. I was having a LOT of performance problems with it since a new shop started working on it here in LI, but I think they've worked out now. Was going to sell it, and buy a BMW M3 w/SMG II, but I think i'll keep it now.

...just put 18" Brabus Monoblock VI rims on it, 8.5" wide in the front, 9.5" wide in the rear, with Potenza SO-3 Pole Positions tires.

bye for now

OK, thanks for the welcome. Here's a pic from yesterday. Sorry for the poor quality. I'm putting in my Euro AMG stock springs to replace my US stock springs. Fronts are done. Backs are starting in 5 minutes.

Thanks!

John

Nice cars, fellas. I strongly considered a '99 C43 when I was buying my car. Not that I regret my decision, but sometimes I wonder what it would've been like...

mbc43amg - Can you post pics of your wheels? That's the exact setup I was interested in getting (down to the rubber). What are the offsets on those wheels? What size tires do you have on there?

planning to do so

I don't have a digital camera yet, so I have to take basic pics and scan them. If the weather holds this weekend, I'll be doing so.

- The offsets are (I believe) 37 for the front, and 34 for the rear.
- The tires I have are 225X40-18 front, 255X35-18 rear.

They're still breaking in, and are not very "sticky" yet, so I'll hold off saying anything about them until I get at least 500-1000 miles on them.

I will say...

I forgot to say ... I've already had a surprising number of unsolicited comments from people coming to me on the rims and how it looks on the car, one a complete stranger, saying "wow", "it's hot", "awesome", "don't change it" [because I'm still not sure if I _love_ the rims ... reminds me of what comes stock on an Acura TL ... though the Brabus rims have a lot more depth and character]

It does make you feel good when you come out of the store in the morning after having bought your coffee, and see someone walking around the car with great admiration.

I had the S-03s on my CLK, in those exact sizes, on 18" Carlsson 2/5s. I think you'll like them. They have crazy grip, and wet performance is suprisingly decent.

I'm quite envious of your wheels. The offsets you mention are interesting, as they would fit my car perfectly. I was under the impression that Brabus used a 35mm offset, but I may be wrong. Do you have the single or multipiece version? I was leaning towards the single piece.

I saw them in 19" multipiece on an S-class last night. Very sharp. Pictures don't do these wheels justice (that doesn't mean you shouldn't post some).

Welcome to the "hot rods" section John and MBC. Of course you guys can make this your home! Feel free to check out the other areas of this fine website also. You'll be able to get lots of valueable advice and pick up parts at good prices also. Enjoy your cars and MBSHOP.

BTW, I got them from Peter @ the WheelExperts. Great Information, Service and Support (price was none too shabby either! )
