W202 turbo

4 Attachment(s)
Hi there ...

i think i found the forum i was looking for...

Am from Greece and i have a w202 turbo

we dont have any other merc turbo here,,,,and i made everything with lots of problems

i have now made some good results using Garett GTX3576 pushing 1,8bar making about 630ps with lots of torque/// but am having serious problems with trackion

my next step is to make it automatic with pcs controller but i have some more answers to take....
i dont know anything about automatics....
i use a 6speed manual w203 270cdi.....and it can stand torque...
i dont know what converter to use....
i found a 722.626 from a e320cdi w211 to use...beause they are cheaper than the .628 and they can handle the same power.....but.....can i use the diesel converter?
i just bought an ASD diff 3.27 and i will put it to work manually... with a hydraulic handbrake

anybody done that before?
can the 124asd stand torque?with locked hydravlic?

sorry for my bad english...

Theodore...

very interesting project as not that much of people tuning the m111 engine, is that a 2.3 from kompressor model? does it running upgraded internal or stock? on stock head or also upgrade? at what rpm do you have full boost as that turbo is huge. sorry for so many questions i just like to see more info on the engine, as that the highest hp number from m111 which is great works.
If you want an automatic gearbox people here use the 722.3 with high hp numbers, or you like to keep it manual you can adapte bmw zf or getrag which i also saw people run it which great number
Again great build, keep us updated

Hi...
It's a 2lt updated to 2250cc from the bottom...
Lots of work on the head with re profiled cams
Custom rods and pistons from dp performance
And runs 32psi at 4200 to 7600

What kind of 722.3 should I use?
I think it is 4 speed?
What convertor?
Does it need Any reinforcement?
Does it use any electronics?

Please HELP... I need one!!!!

you could contact the guys at Flenstad Tekniske as they running 722.3 gearbox with turbo m111 engines,
see there site: flenstadtekniske.com
or facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FlenstadTekniske

or you could contact pumpish from Turbobandit as he running high hp with 722.3 gearbox
turbobandit.com

try contact them by phone you will get faster reply

And I'll add that the 722.3 automatic transmissions are all hydro-mechanical in standard form. No electronics. You need some sort of mechanical throttle connection via a Bowben cable - a mechanical selector for P-R-N-D-2-1 etc - and a vacuum signal that tells the transmission about engine demand / load

The 722.3s are considered to be better than the later 722.4s - as they have fewer cheaper plastic parts in them.

If you want links to 722.3 threads in bits I can post up a few if you can't find them.

There are several torque converter options for the 722.3 - different stall speeds - you are best off speaking to those who have something similar for what works best

thanks for the replies....

from which car should i find the 722.3?
are there stonger from diesels lets say?
or v8's?

722.3 transmissions were fitted to W123 W126 and R/C107 chassis you might find them fitted to other vehicles as factory standard as well but they were mostly about in the early 1980s although they were still used in some vehicles made later I believe.

If you look at the EPC catalogues on EverythingBenz - Mercedes-Benz Forum and Web Search Using Google you can find out the transmission numbers you might want - but it is best to speak to people who have done this before.

The "diesel" valve bodies for example will probably shift too soon - though you can probably adjust the shift points with superior shift kits it is probably best getting what people advise rather than trying to turn apples into pears (so to speak).

The majority of the 722.3 transmissions share the same gearing - only the valve bodies changed. Towards the middle of the 1980s with the introduction of the 722.4 transmissions the quality of the parts in the 722.3s seemed to tail off too - it all started to go plastic.

If I remember correctly the "V8" 722.3s had different gear ratios - but I'm not 100% sure about that. If you want to know about specific transmissions I can probably find out information for you but I'm not willing to write out huge great big lumps of information at the moment (got no time!).

The myth that diesel transmissions are stronger than petrol transmissions isn't true

Look out for electronic and mechanical speedometer compatibility related problems!

Easy to find the 722.3 in 1986-1988 W124, C124, S124.
All these models used mechanical speedo.
Internal gearing should be the same.
1= 3.68, 2= 2.41, 3=1.44, 4=1.0
They are all second gear start which isn't a problem if you use a rear gear ratio numerically above 3.0
I run the original stock 722.3 in my 1988 300CE low boost twin turbo M103-12V which has dyno'd at close to 400BHP.
No problems handling the power.

Good job on the car build:).

Really thank u guys!!!! I appreciate that !!!

Can't I use it only like manual? I put this to see better times on the dragstrip....

Does it change gears alone if I don't want?

Should I cool this thing ?

Anybody of u changed disks inside ?

Mb gtx35 04-05-2014 10:01 AM

Can I start it with 1st gear?

...

You can stop it from changing up - I've not heard of anyone doing some sort of push button gear selection on these transmissions - that would be an interesting project.

...

They all come with fittings to a cooler - the stock radiators (for engine cooling) share a transmission oil cooler

Yes lots of people here have done that

Here's a schematic showing most of the parts

Generally speaking the answer is yes - though some of these transmissions are designed to start in second. Lots of them are designed to start in first though - I'm not sure about the V8s

Mb gtx35 04-05-2014 07:05 PM

Did anyone of u put some extra disks ?
Did anyone open the valve body holes bigger ?
Can u please tell me what converter should I use?

Mb gtx35 04-05-2014 07:20 PM

How many km will I see on 5000rpm or 7000rpm on 4th gear with a 3.27 ?

The 722.3 starts in second gear.
To start in first just put the selector in "2" with the car at a stop, then move it back to "D".
It will start in first but how long it holds the gear depends on the throttle rate and amount.
Pedal to the floor and it will shift to second around 6300 rpm or around 39 mph.
If you leave it in "2" or "3" it will not shift automatically past the selected gear.
The rev limiter is in the fuel pump relay.
