94 E500 - Engine Simply Shut Down While Running - Won't Start-

Near end of a 10 mile drive while fully warm, engine simply shut down - all lights on dash lit up. Starter cranks and engine won't start. Do not have a code reader, and have not checked for spark, which I do not suspect is the issue. Car running excellently before. Only recent changes were 150 miles ago adding Boost fuel additive for first time, and an independent mechanic pulling out and putting back in the relays behind fuse box to be sure the A/C auxiliary fan was working, which it was. Wondering about CPS or possibility of the fuel additive freeing up possible sediment in tank, thereby possibly affecting fuel pump. Any ideas appreciated. Also, any suggestion on how to get a reasonably priced code reader for this model (OBD-1 ?) appreciated.

For a code reader, CA spec cars had a button under the hood in the right hand diagnostic port. All other cars just need a light bulb and a few jumpers. Do a search for code reader or test light and something should pop up on this site.

Give the intake a puff of starting fluid or dribble of fuel, if the motor tries to run, check power to the fuel pump.

Pull a plug wire and check for spark, if you don't have any, check the crankshaft position sensor for AC power while cranking. I'm not 100% sure on these cars but I think you will get at least 2.5V.

Thank you very much for the advice.

Not familiar with your model....does it have "Limp home mode"

engatwork 10-30-2014 03:55 PM

More like walk home on these applications:). Does it start right up after it has cooled off? If yes, I would suspect crank position sensor.

Has 2 months been long enough for it to cool off?

Lol, just looked at date.

A link to your site that you are plugging isn't very helpful UNLESS it includes a link to a specific thread that deals with this specific issue. ;)

Frankly, Eric, I don't care a whit what you think.

400Eric 11-01-2014 05:48 AM

The feeling is mutual buddy.

However, you will start caring when I alert this site's admins that you are trying to cannibalize this site's membership.

What's wrong? Things a little slow (and BORING) since I left?

With my exit, your site has now lost HALF of it's drag racers.

Now your site is all about arm rests and sun visor clips lol.

That's low, even for you Gerry, but I fully expected it. It's proof you aren't as refined as you would have everyone else believe. It is in fact living proof that you are actually a lowlife. But I already knew that.

It also makes it clear that, just as I suspected, it is even easier to push your buttons than it is to push mine, lol.

What do you hope to accomplish with a remark like that? Hurt me? "Get to me"? I just picked her ashes up 37 hours ago. All you have done is deepen my resolve to make you miserable and stop you from cannibalizing this site any further.

Feel free to tattle to the admins here about my constant referrals of M119 124 questions to *********.

I already have.

Keep showing your true (idiotic) stripes.

Like you just did in that first paragraph? I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll EVER be able to stoop to that level, no matter how hard I try.

I will however continue to hound you over here where you don't have a delete button. I'll make you my hobby. And now that I dont have to care for my dog anymore, I have some extra time available now to devote to that worthy cause. ;)

Hugs and Kisses,
Eric
