Better breathing for 87 300E

Ive been told that there is an air filter kit from K&N for this model, has anybody installed anything similar or have any ideas on how to improve on this .Also how much of a gain would I have over stock exh. manifold if I installed headers. Any ideas on how to improve performance in this or other areas would be apreciated. Thanks. I dont have to worry about emissions

Do a search on this site on "300E performance" ypu will find a ton of info. The most popular mods would be: precat removal, 3.27 or 3.65 differential, k&n airfilter, ram air, R16 resistor removal, Y pipe exaust, aftermarket exaust, ect.......
Good Luck!

john, check out home.earthlink.net/~asherson/DON

He made one very easily. of course the design is open to interpretation, as I myself would make new panels for under the headlights to intake the extra air.

try some dryer vent hose or autmotive vent hose form pep boys, comes in pieces a few feet long.

Cut a hole in the side of your intake and affix the hose and air seal it to the air box.

Route the hose to a good location to draw in outside air, under the headlights is a good idea.

Do this at your own risk though, I wont take any responsibility if you ruin the air cleaner housing.

essentially it involves cutting a hole in it and routing a hose. That should be about it.

Better Breathing YES its true

I am not sure you exact situation and I don't encourage anyone to cut up a car without being comfortable with the results and risks but I will tell you my mod. 190E 8V motor not all that impreessive but I ran a system you might like. I purchased a heater hose (get a good one, nice looking too), made a careful cut (oval in shape)in the filter housing at the 7 to 8 oclock postion looking at the engine from the front ran hose over valve cover towards FRONT ( less heat) and under the passanger side headlight you may I did find a area that is open under the light ran hose under light and covered end with small screen. went back over cuts in filter housing and siliconed any openings from cut. It does not pull as much as factory system about 10-15% less but with my K&N filter makes a differences never dyno so not sure exact amount but I do know my car and this is a improvement. Total cost about 50 bucks with K&N filter. took about 30 minutes. May not be for all but works great for me. I should also mention That I have ALOT of other mods to my motor. this may be why mine was so responsive to change.
