Treadstone turbo manifolds.

Treadstone Performance (Treadstone Performance Inc, Turbo Kits, Intercoolers, Turbo manifolds, Silicone hose)
makes a number of cast turbo manifolds for inline sixes. Anyone here tried to adapt one to the M104?? They seem to be beautifully made. Thanks.

i think building a log manifold from scratch would be a lot easier and cheaper than modifying a treadstone one.

I was thinking of someone with an M104 buying an exhaust manifold gasket for
one of the engines they have a manifold for and seeing how it looks.

It's not worth the hassle.
I tried it with BMW M50 and 2JZ Toyota gaskets. The port sizes and spacing is off by so much that those nice looking manifolds would look like crap and the work involved in modifying one, you are better off making it from scratch.

Couldn't you use a turbo manifold off a 3.5 rod bender diesel on a m104?

Those have 2 valves per cyl so it won't work with a M104 which has 4 valves per cyl. The manifold might work with a M103 but I have not checked.

The OM606 has 4 valves per cyl but the ports and log are very small.

Stock M104 manifolds are stainless ( wrapped in an outer shell for heat control. ) so it would be possible to weld one up.

Trying to fit another makes parts to an existing engine isn't all that crazy. The DOHC Volvo aluminum cylinder head is a bolt hole fit to a 2.3 Ford " Lima " ( OHC Pinto 73 to ~ 2000 ish ) engine, it just takes some small mods to create an oil return passage and a timing belt tensioner.

I use the late 603 manifold on my 103. I created an adaptor set to bolt it up. I can confirn that the port shape difference would make it a poor choice for the 104. With enough determination you could make it work but that effort could be better focused on better solutions.

The closest is the rb which shares bore spacing, but is a driver's side exhaust

RB? Bore spacing isn't always a qualifier as ports are sometimes moved around.

Some are turbocharging the GM " Atlas " engine, a manifold from one of these might be worth a shot. ( RH exhaust )

This was offered as a all aluminum DOHC, 4 valve, variable exhaust cam timing, 4.2 L inline 6 cyl in 02 to 09 ish Chevy Trail Blazer. ( and a 4 and 5 in other cars / trucks. )

The stock NA 6 makes from 270 to 291 HP @ 6,000 and 275 to 277 Ft Lb @ 3,600 - 4,800 , Kinda wants you to use this in place of a M104

No, but it gets you closer than the m50 or jz which arent even close. The ports in the rb aren't in weird spreads like the jz. The ports are smaller though.

And I can tell you've never seen an atlas motor in person.

RB to me is a Chrysler Raised B V8 ( 413, 426 wedge, 440 )

I've minorly looked at the Atlas motor in the past, what don't you like about it? ( Maybe too tall for a MB app? )

Someone at work has one in a rusted Trail Blazer that I'm tempted to buy and install in my Chevy 1 ton pickup. It currently has a 292 St 6 that could use a rebuild and a 4 sp auto to try to get more than 7 MPG.

Oh sorry. Nissan RB.

Yeah the atlas motor is freaking huge. I'm trying to find a picture of one in a datsun z where that motor is nearly identical in size to the M103. Essentially it's about half a foot too tall before you get to the manifold or pan and that much longer. I swear a 5.9 Cummins isn't much off dimensionally (although way heavier)

Edit. Okay I exaggerated a little bit with the Cummins comment. Atlas is 30in long and 30 tall( no manifolds) Cummins is 32 tall and 34 Long

The M104 is tilted to the right by ~ 10 * ( ? ) degrees so the same can be done with the Atlas if needed.
