Where to buy w124 sway bars?

I've had enough of the body roll I experience on my 93 w124. I've done quite a bit of research on the subject, and decided I want to find the 500e sway bar upgrade. My issue is.. I can't find them anywhere! Local dealer cant order them, and cant seem to pin point a location to purchase them online.

Anyone have any ideas?

eBay. or post a WTB here in the For Sale Section.

If your 124 is a standard 300E, then 300E sportline and 400E sway bars also are an improvement.

I have been scouring ebay for both the eibach and 500e sway bars. The only ones that seem to come up are the base 300e, or 300te bars. I guess I could look for a 400/300 sportline bar, but I would rather be one and done.

Do what you need to do. It was just a suggestion. Might also try searching craigslist nationwide, that's how I got one of my Sportline sets.

I don't know that anyone on here has a mystery cache of 500E bars. 500E front bars were available around 2 years ago, my friend picked one up for an E420 (that my dad now owns) but couldn't get the matching rear. He ended up selling the bar on CL. But if they are NLA now, I guess that's that.

I would advise you find a pair, a huge front bar and tiny rear one may help some highway, high speed interchanges with body roll, but at say, autocross, it will make the car more prone to understeer. My understanding is 400E and 300E sportline are the same size. I ran 300E sportline on the front of my 300D and a stock rear bar and noticed more understeer at the limit. Put a 400E bar out back and things shifted back towards neutral.

The sportline front is 1.5mm larger than the v8 bar in the front and the same in the rear. I have a v8 set for sale in the classifieds, fwiw.

I apologize, I did not mean to come across as snoody! I absolutely appreciate the input. It's a silly reason, but the car is rubbing on stock suspension on the wheels/ tires I currently have on it. Granted, its my own fault because I wanted some meat out back. But the body roll at 15 mph turns causing the fender to rub tire is slightly absurd. I have a pretty complete suspension to go into the car, but am striking out swaybars. This will never be a track/ autocross car. building it as a weekend cruiser. just wanna stop feeling like I'm going to rollover/ rubbing on the off ramps!

I'll check out the thread!

How fresh is the rest of the suspension? Lots of worn out rubber all over the place could be a contributing factor that sway bars may just bandaid. Fresh bushings, and bigger sway bars... now we are talking.

front lower control arms have probably 10k on them. Rears need some love, Not terrible shape/ripped/cracked by any means, but you can tell they are old. found a couple of rear end overhaul kits (basically all the control arms and a couple bushings) for $170ish bucks. though I'm torn with ordering it, as in two months time I'll be swapping in a SBC and I haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do with the rear end.

It's on my short list of things to figure out.

I would be shocked that the dealer can't get the 500e bars. I bought both front and rear in the last year for my wagon.

What size tires and wheels are you using?

18x8.5 235/35/18 up front and 18x9.5 275/35/18 out back.

For a front bar, have a look at oval track parts sellers. You can get straight bars that are splined on each end and straight or bent arms. Also have a look at weight jacks / racing springs, this will make your life much easier.

This chart from gsxr's site will answer all your questions and blow a few misconceptions as well. Like the fact that the 400E front bar, despite it's different shape to clear the V8's oil pan, is actually no bigger than the standard 300E bar is. The 400E rear bar is bigger though. Lot's of info there. http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_sway_bars/124_swaybars.pdf

This is the link to his other W124 sway bar stuff. http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_sway_bars/

Too many people trying to get a 500E/E500 bar set and not enough of them floating around prevent them from being a very viable option.

Here is your issue. Sway bars will not help you from rubbing or crashing the fenders with that tire/wheel combo. These cars are not designed for 18" wheels at all. 7.5 wide is widest/best on a non 500e w124.

I have 17x7.5 et30 with 225/45/17 and had to roll my rear fenders.

uh.. except for the fact that the front are actually .4" shorter (diameter wise) than stock, and the rears are only .6" taller. At stock height, that should not be an issue, considering the tire is realistically only .3" closer to the fender...

ccrelan 04-04-2015 07:19 PM

The wheels and tires must be poking out way beyond the fenders with the widths you are running though. The stock wheels were only 6.5".

Here are some bars bigger than 500e, but they will not help your rubbing.
