BMW N55 Turbo.

Has anyone tried to adapt a BMW N55 Turbo to an M103/104?? Figured if it had been tried, this would be the place.

Good question. I wouldn't think anyone has tried that but a quick ebay search shows some reasonably priced n54 turbos...

I imagine anything is possible once you fab up some headers / flanges that would work with the m103/4.

Unless you really want a dual turbo setup, I dunno how worth it is to go this route

The manifold looks to be stainless, this can be rewelded without too much trouble. Low grade SS welds up easily.

This brings the thought to modify later M104 stamped manifolds / or hydroform new ones with a pressure washer. Have a look on the net for home hydroforming.

I'd also have a look at making a twin turbo with an exhaust diverter valve in the middle to join both turbos together for higher flow. Twin turbo at low speed for quick spool , both turbos for a bit more exhaust flow at high speed.

Oh man I wish I knew how to weld.

Time to save up for a welder? Lol

The problem is that if it has any resemblance to the M5x with regards to bore spacing, that particular turbo manifold will be far, far too short compared to the M104 bore space.

I imagine you'd need a custom made manifold. Also I would think that the electronics in it would be difficult to manage (though I haven't worked with it). Iirc that is an electronically managed waste gate and is also variable vane. When I had my N55 with an intake the turbo would make some really interesting sounds...some witchcraft in there.
