Test Drive : Grp 2 Acropolis Rally contender - W123 280CE
 

Here's an up-close look at Ingvar Carlsson's W123 280CE rally car which was restored and tested in recent years. 230HP from its 2.3 liter engine along with a 4 speed manual box and rear wheel drive of course - what a blast it must have been to drive back in the day but its weight was an issue which probably put a damper on its Group 2 future. Piloting this beauty through the dirt and gravel of the Acropolis, unbelievable!

We love every aspect of this machine! What do you think?

ahhh, It's actualy a 2.8 liter engine M110.
And knowing that Waxl was still involved there is every chance that AMG had a hand in it's build. They had a engine kit which guaranteed an extra 20 DIN horsepower.

Hi mercmad, it will be nice if you can share more info or link on that AMG M110 engine kit.

It's very nice to see this old racer cleaned up and being used as it was meant to be by someone who knows how to handle it .

In my dreams I could drive this well , I have taken my older W-123 Coupe out for rather spirited road rallies with Sports Cars and it does well but nothing as fast as this :) .

here is some of what i have. The engine in the photo is Stage III M110 with 230 Horsepower. These were not available for sale in Germany and intended for export only. incredibly rare engine kit .
