Mitsubishi Turbo.

50% off at the old PnP the next 4 days. My local yard has a 2000, Volvo V70
which used the Mitsubishi TD04HL-16T turbo I'm thinking of grabbing along with the intercooler etc. Would go on a basically stock M110. Any one with experience with this unit?? Any comments appreciated.
Yes I know it would need a custom manifold (5 vs 6 cylinders)

I have a couple of these or similar turbos. Not much info on the net, the Volvo guys tend to think the turbos are nothing exciting but no info was offered why.

They have variable compressor vanes giving more range however the vanes need cleaning because they stick.

At the moment I don't have a matching pair. When I do find a match I'm thinking of using 2 on a 1997 M104 3.2 Inline 6 to give some low speed push. I'm not so concerned about top RPM power though.

Thanks for responding, the -16T is what the folks at turbobricks recommended for my size engine, 2800cc and HP range I'm interested in, 250-300. Apparently there is a whole range, from 13-19T depending on the engine size. Nice thing about PnP, they show the VIN# for each vehicle and you can tell which engine/turbo the Volvo's have by the 6th and 7th number. They also recommended a 2000+ model which has a 3" angled outlet. A better performer apparently.

Thanks for the info, I plan on using one turbo per 3 cyl as a long 6 cyl exhaust manifold is bound to have cracking / exhaust gasket issues in the long term. And, later M104 engines use welded manifolds making a turbo mod easy. ( they are double wall so the outer shell will need cut open. )

I'm thinking that a pair of TD04HL-14T from a 1.9 engine will be just fine on a 3.2 or a standard bore long stroke 3.5.

This is where I got my info Swede Demon's turbo application list

They were all links from turbobricks, a great resource.

16T's are great turbo's,they came standard on all the "T5" trimmed cars it has advantages over the 15G in many ways, and like stated if possible try to source the newer style angle flange.. If wanting to go the twin-turbo route it'd be a great choice, quick spool and they could also be converted to 19T's with some work. Look into ARD Tuning
