300SD turbos on M117?

I'm thinking too small, but I'll toss it out there for the experts. Just kind of window shopping turbos right now and realized that I have 2 or 3 of these laying around.

Twin H1Es or HX40s is around what I'm actually looking at, since it seems others have had success with those turbos.

Six others from BMW, GM, and Ford.

Really depends on how much HP you aim to make and at what RPM.

Twins just seemed like the go-to on a V8. Single is certainly an option as well, I'm just window shopping at this point.

As for HP goals..whatever the motor will take. I've seen references to 700HP at the wheels which would certainly be nice.

Found a side-by-side of an HX40 with the 617 turbo, definitely too small. It's really hard to judge the size of these things from pictures :/ On a side note, the diesel guys have made serious progress since I got the 560, makes me really want to rebuild the 300SD's motor.

If I plugged the numbers into the calculator right you'd need around 1000 CFM to hit that target. Probably easier to get that out of two turbos if you want a reasonable spool. Time to start studying compressor maps.

Here's a handy site, too:

That site is great. Looks like the H1E (from the only turboed M117 I can find with details) might be a little too big, while a HX35 or GT30 would be right in the middle. Genuine HX35s seem to be available for reasonable prices too. I might just take the plunge in the coming weeks...
