M110 turbo manifold question.
Hi all,
I have had a thought, looking at a friends 2000 e320 cdi. The exhaust manifold looks like it might fit the m110 engine. Has anyone tried this? I've just bought a 320 cdi manifold off of eBay, for £12 including postage, so I'll let you know if it works, it could make the conversion a bit simpler for everyone... 😀 Cheers Frank. |
Interested, but the M110 has a much smaller bore space than the E320 CDI motor.

I thought it might be different, I'm only basing my idea from a quick look at my friends car. But for only £12, I thought I'd give it a try and see if it's feasible.

I've never measured but the manifolds on my 300te m103 look really similar to the m110. I mean the way they mount and bolt arrangement.

I've been in touch with this guy (edit! in Australia actually ) that has flanges for m117,120,103,104 and he says in approx October he will have m110. He has 7mm and 10mm for regular and turbo headers.

I may be. A couple things to consider before cutting. the actual port size can be way off from the gasket and a big step hurts flow. Also making the hole a size readily available tubing fits fairly well. What would cost be?

Going from small to large isn't a problem, other way round is.
With a small port, large manifold, you make an anti reversion ledge. Sort of like this but not quite. When I first saw this engine in the day, I had visions of using it in a rear engine econo rail with sidedraft Webers and zoomie exhaust pipes just for how the package would look. |
that would help i suppose but still lose velocity. but after watching the enginemasters channel header bashing test any theories about what makes and kills power is up in the air.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azPKIjxmmdU Oh and i looked at and measured my 300 te m103 manifold. it appears the separate port bolt pattern is the same as a m110 but spacing is different.so if you got a m103 flange you could whack it into six im pretty sure. i would check with a gasket first thpugh. the bolts were 69mm apart i think. |

For anyone that's interested, have eliminated turbo manifolds from the Datsun 280Z/Fairlady, the Datsun Skyline and Dodge Cummins diesel for use on the M110. Either wrong flange pattern or port spacing. Didn't check against the M103/104 specs. Too bad, the Dodge manifolds are dirt cheap. Any other I6's anyone's looked at??

BMW has an integrated turbo / exhaust manifold that I think is stainless tube. I recall that someone posted a pic on this site ( maybe under the M120 V12 heading )
Port spacing is your only concern as the flange pattern is bound to be different. |

Is that a standard t4 flange or the odd 6 bolt. I've heard of a similar td0xx something that is used on subarus. I admit I'm not super knowledgable on the turbo I need yet. I know there is two schools of thought for the m110 turbo. One being a smaller faster spoiling turbo to help the low power lower rpm range but not go to crazy on high end power and the other to make stupid amounts of high rpm power. Regardless I would like at least a engine side flange.
