Why a manual transmission??
 

My Grandson, who can quote the statistics of every supercar we see, asked me why I was going through all this hassle to adapt a T5 to the 107 instead of using something like a 722.6 and using paddle shifters. You can still run through the gears but won't destroy your leg if stuck in traffic, which happens a lot around here, and have to ride the clutch for hours. Didn't have an answer. Anyone consider this idea?? I know there are kits to adapt GM trannys. Just a thought.

If you are asking about adapting a 722.6 to a w107 it has been done. There are several threads on here about this subject. I am the retailer for the PCS kit for doing this.

Tiptronic trans is essentially an auto with you telling it when to shift. Most of the 90s-00s era electronic autos have slushy shifts and lose a lot of energy in between gears. Newer dual clutch autos and newer autos are very snappy and are typically faster and more efficient than their manual counterparts but you probably won't be swapping any of those in. Why a manual? Vs a 722.6 you'll be faster and more efficient. But really it's just preference, lots of folks (including me) like the control and feel of a manual. For a daily driver I prefer the slushbox (which btw a 4 speed auto to a Wankel engine is literally the worst possible combo...).

Tbh I'd probably prefer auto on a 107 because it's a cruiser and not a performance car. But again it's a preference.

I've converted several cars from auto to stick.

Every one the engine makes more power. I'm doing my w124 conversion because benzers have the WORST throttle response of any car I've ever driven. New twin turbo v8 or old 2.6 190e, all lazy throttles and trannys

Do not confuse tuning with an inherent issue with the transmission. These are extremely efficient and can shift very fast. We can shift in less than .3s with massive power running through them. Actual shift time in the .15s range.

Something to realize with an auto, the engine will come up to stall speed and sort of hang there until trans input shaft speed matches engine speed. This gives an auto the sense of being slower than a manual trans.

I believe today the manual transmission is a looser as far as performance numbers go at least to the high tech performance autos. But they are a cool part of the driving experience.
