Stainless Steel Brake Lines

Are they worth the cost?

Can you feel the difference, better modulation?

Please share stories, prices.

Nominally improved pedal feel...I think many people feel a big difference because they EXPECT to feel a big difference. I paid under $100 U.S. for 4 lines for my 500E.

Modulation improvement? Doubt it.

Would I buy them again? Only for a car that sees track use; I just bought replacement OE rubber hoses for my wagon.

If you apply brakes to the point that you induce the ABS system the SS lines will improve braking distances. This is because the pressure builds faster allowing a shorter cycling time of the system. This more closely approximates threshold braking. Under normal conditions there really is no benefit over fresh std. lines. Maintenance is more critical and damage more likely with SS lines. If you do use them be prepared to inspect them frequently and really be careful when you take it for a brake job. They can be damaged very easily when people are not familiar with them.

Shyne. Its preference I guess. I ran them in all my cars from first car. 260Z etc>> up to my 500E. It is a big differnece. You feel more of a solid pedal. I drive my everyday I like the way it feels. I run racing dot5 brake fluid. With racing brembo brakes. I'l always run them on anything I own I believe in them.

my 2 cents

I couldn't tell the difference between Aeroquip Stainless lines, and regular new factory lines.

Guido- are you really running DOT 5 fluid (silicon-based) or DOT 5.1 (glycol-based)? All the reports I've heard on silicon-based brake fluids is DON'T do it, esp. if your brake system wasn't designed for it.

I have, however, heard good things about DOT 5.1.

no neil not the silicone type. The Racing blue stuff. I forgot which dot it was.

Neil did you ever redo your suspension in the rear.

I'm going to do my sunframe mounts soon. Also the rear Diff since that axle carriers alot of load back there.

I got the hella's on they soo bright. I'm happy with them I dont think I have to change the bulbs out on them. Me and my friend are building a 2.5 stroker 16V. We imported the engine from japan. Its going to be cool. I drove a CLK 55 supercharged version yesterday. The damn thing flew. It wasnt kleenman it was another brand. The supercharger was off to the side. They just relocated the coolant reservoir tank. I wish I had pics to show. I felt like a good 450+ HP.

Are you running that timevalve Y pipe or your 500 ? I'm going to do one on my friends 500. I was just curious on some feedback. also i'l installing a lorniser muffler. It was the customers choice on muffler.

Guido

Guido, with about 75K on the clock, the only thing the rear-end needs are new accummulator/nitrogen spheres.

If I rebuild the rear, it will be with adjustable arms from either RennTech or Delsing Motorsports.

I'm looking into a 3.07 limited-slip rear-end as well.

I haven't removed the center-resonator and install a TimeValve Y-pipe (yet). The only muffler change is a Remus in the rear by the previous owner.

Let's us know how everything comes out. I think you have low miles as well, so let us know if you really feel a difference rebuilding the rear end.

Take care,
:-) neil

Guido,

Ate Super Blue is a DOT 4 fluid, FWIW.

Glad you're happy with the lights!
