Will 3.5 manual fit in an early Fintail?
I know there were 3.5 v8 in later w111 coupes, but I'm wondering if the 3.5 is a bolt-in on earlier w111. Was the low grill required to fit the 3.5? If so, did the fenders and trans tunnel change to fit the larger 3.5? And if so, would the manual trans drivetrain 3.5 from my 1972 350sl fit without modification?

I know of at least one member that installed a 3.5 manual in an early coupe.

Thanks Tony. Do you know if tunnel or firewall modifications were required? It seems there was a lot that changed during the 280 run that I am concerned may have been to accommodate a 3.5. Maybe it was just for the 3.5 automatic. I don't know. My hope is to put the drive train from a 350sl 4-speed manual into an early w111 stick shift coupe. Do you think there are any major challenges? I think I may have access to w108 4.5 motor mount arms and a 4.5 two piece oil pan (to make it look more authentic if not required to fit). I think you know Jason Birch aka @rwd4evr rwd4evr. We kind of co-own a 73 280sel 4.5 parts car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
