Installing E320 engine in a C280 !!
I have a 1995 C280 and have a 1996 E320 engine, I want to do the swap but want to know what else is needed other than computer, engine, and transmission. Do I have to change anything else?? Thanks for your input. And yes the engine is straight bolt on.

Just a stab at it !
Just curious, but aren't both of these engines (M104). The c being a 104.941 (194hp) & the E a 104.995 (217hp) I know that the ASR features make the throttle body actuators different. But is the increase in HP due to a different intake and/or cams? Just thinking out loud.

In deep thought
Just a though again. It will obviously drop in & bolt up, but with the increased displacement will the O2 sensors adjust to compensate for the increase. Also, what about changing the size fo the fuel injectors? Again, just thinking ...........?

Should be a DIRECT bolt in!!
Possibly the computer would need changed. |
They are both mechanically the same engine. Only difference is a longer stroke on the 3.2L to bump the displacement up by .4 liters over the 2.8L. That is where the extra power comes from.

Thanks for the responces. I just want to know if there is anything else I need. I have Engine and transmission. Should be getting the computer soon, anything else???? I don't wanna find out later I had to change the diff or something.
Thanks guys Regards, Harold |
I had a 1996 c280 drug in with a blown motor. I ordered a used engine from a local yard and all they had was a 1995. There are quite a few differences. First, the valve covers are different, the wire harnesses are different, the A/C bracket, front crank pulley and rear flywheel, the crank sensor and the water pump. All these things will have to be swapped from the original engine to the donor for it to just "bolt up". The reason is there is a producion break right there in '95.
Good luck. |
Harold-
I had the exact same idea and even sourced a 97 E320 engine and tranny. The 97 tranny as you know is a 5 speed and a better choice than the 96. I think for the .4 increase in displacement is not worth the trouble, but I was doing it because once I fit my Mosselman Twin Turbo system the .4 would help. Good luck and let me know what's up. |
You may also have to look for additional cooling.
