717.411 info
Does anyone definitively know the gear ratios in a 717.411 and its torque rating? Or the torque rating for any of the 717.4xx transmissions?
We had the 717.435 fail behind our 2.6 and we've found a few cheap single mass options but they all seem to be from 2.3 8v engines or the diesels. I know the diesel has wider ratios but I've seen the 717.411 listed as a gas transmission and people have claimed both gearing options.

How did the 435 fail?

Unfortunately that list doesn't include the 717.411. Third gear started grinding during an endurance race and we kept going after a metal filled oil change. A bearing or something fell apart. With how hard parts are to get I'm not going to attempt a rebuild.

dAww shucks.
The 411 was in the earliest 8V W201s and has a different shift pattern as well as smaller diameter output flange than the 412, but other than that I think the ratios are very close if not the same.

Bearings might not be as bad to find as you might think
Last year I found sources for the bearings from the MB dealer as well as by ID-ing numbers on the bearings themselves and going to normal bearing suppliers. It sure took some time to find the parts but it wasn't impossible (This was for a 717.412)

I may investigate but I also have a lot on my plate otherwise. I'll have to see about rebuilding it.
When you say the shift pattern is different how so? Will our shifter work?

The 411 has R down-right under 5th. Your 435 would have R on a separate gate next to 2nd if I'm not mistaken like this one.
I don't know if your existing shifter would work. I suppose it's possible since they both have R on the bottom. And if not, maybe you'd just need to swap the shift gate plate on the bottom of the shifter. Don't think that will change anything, but I have one that is cracked if it will help you. It will need to be welded back together. Also verify the output flange. You will probably need to swap the one from the 435 or get the driveshaft from the 411. Thank you. I just picked up the .411 trans and it appears to have .435 ratios. It also has a rebuild tag on it.
With them both being on the bottom that seems like a something I can modify. I won't throw anything out until I have this one in per usual.

717.411 info
I just pulled a 5-speed trans with reverse under 5th from a 1985 2.3 190e. I assume it’s the single mass flywheel, and from this thread assume it is a 411. What motors are blowing these up? (My intention is to bolt it to a m104 3.2 with aftermarket fuel and spark.
Edit: I confirmed the car came with a 717.411

For the .435 we ruined it with a pretty much stock 2.6 road racing on 200tw tires.

The 717.411 has ratios I. 3.91; II. 2.17; III. 1.37; IV. 1.0; V. 0.78; R. 4.27
The 717.435 has ratios I. 3.86; II. 2.18; III. 1.38; IV. 1.0; V. 0.80; R. 4.22

Thank you for confirming the ratios. This is in line with what I found as well by spinning the output and counting the revolutions of the input. It's somewhat inprecise.
