Increasing BHP

Anyone have ideas on how to increase the BHP on a '88 500SEC without major engine work?

Do the basics...i don't know much about your car but the basics always help. Change the air filter out with a K&N air filter, upgrade the ignition system, and do custom exhaust. Depending on you car you could gain a lot or a little power.

Is it a Euro 500 or a U.S. spec? If its U.S. it probably feels like a dog. The only real engine mod for a drastic increase in horsepower would be to sell or trade your U.S. motor towards/for a 500 Euro motor. You'll get a 50hp kick with no mods. Shouldn't be too much of a price difference. Lots of mercedes boneyards have old Euro motors with reasonable mileage. I wouldn't waste the $50 on a K&N if I were you but just my opinion. I've only heard they slow you down in a Benz compared to stock filters. They work for Chevys and Fords apparently but I've heard mostly complaints on Benzes. (See 420 dyno in this section from today.)
