500E reappears for sale
a few months ago a couple of us posted about a 92 500E on ebay. seller was on Long Island
500E for sale on Ebay well , this particular car reappeared at another more established local reseller-type dealer and i went today to check it out. these guys want mid 30's for it. its a monotone green/parch with a few extra goodies like a V1 in console (neat), hands free phone and 10 cd chgr in trunk. feels like its been sitting for a while, tank was low and almost stalled each time we went down to idle... ac was cold but fan seemed real noisy, and a clunking could be heard in front end during most slow speed turns , maybe a tie rod or something? salesman said it just came in and didnt get looked over in shop. pretty lo miles at 35k , but i guess first seller had no luck and dumped it to this bigger outfit. saw very similar 93, same colors even, (also 35k miles) at mb manhattan no starmark offered at $37k. seemed less clean than this one though. i think that one's gonna sit there for a while too. i just thought it a bit interesting that this car showed up again , i wonder if maybe markets softening a bit for these cars? i mean when i drove it , the car did feel a bit old , next to my '99 w202 , maybe it just needs good going-over by shop? itold him to get it in best possible shape and i'd pop by again to test drive. we'll see whats what. i aint buying without a decent warranty thats for sure. all this yakking i'm doing here just means i'm just trying to get enough of a feel for these cars , and the market, to gain enough confidence to decide if i want to commit to one for these premium prices. i mean if i , as private, was seller , i think i'd be lucky to see a 30k bid on either of those ,just my feeling theres a few out there in the upper 20's now out of private hands. another interesting specimen out of big midwest dlr i saw on web is a 94 with only 17k starmark asking $42K. i'm sure that gets scooped at some price. looks quality. ok thats it , thanks!

jago,
Don't get down on the car because of it's age. I looked at 12 cars with various miles on each and I can say it truly depends on how the previous owner treated the car. You can immediately tell if a car has been abused regardless of how low the miles are. My car is totally solid at 57K and I haven't experienced any problems with her (Knock on wood) The key is to find a car that has had all the proper maintenance throughout it's life. Their are several components that seem to wear our around 35 to 45K miles (Belt Tensioner for example). I'd be a bit worried about a car that is stalling like that, mine has sat for two weeks without any startup problems. Just to give you an idea a few of the 12 cars I've looked at are still for sale, there is one in Texas that the ownder is claiming has 35K miles but when you run a carfax it shows 80K miles! I'm sure theres a good reason why that green car is still around. IMHO I believe that those that are looking at these cars know what to look for, seem to avoid the sketchy cars. Hope this helps.
