W123 anti squat?

Was there ever an anti squat in a w123? How about a wagon at that? No EPC to check 😥

Thoughts on towing with or without anti squat? This new wagon I just picked up is the new daily/shop truck.

All the wagons (US market) should have the SLS load leveling rear suspension.

Putting the anti squat arms in any diagonal swing arm car is a bolt on simple operation. The question is does a rear sway bar that is compatible exist? It is an integral part of the rear suspension geometry in the anti squat system. W126 is wider than w123 so the bar would be too I'm fairly certain. R/c107 is a possibility.

Yes all wagons were sls equipped, but anti squat could be used still. I doubt it was but....

I'll have my wagon on the lift later to see what's possible.

All the 5.6 w126 cars seem the Be SLS or Anti-squat, but never both.

I see why the EPC would be handy now.

Optional yes but not all are. 300se was neither. Or bernie.
Question is, what about w123. Any listed with anti-squat?

Oh I misread that. 5.6 cars. Right. If SLS equipped not anti squat.

I don't doubt that I can make a non anti squat sway bar work but it would be nice to just run a factory piece if it exists. I looked under the car and I don't think a c107 bar will fit. A w126 may with a tubular section used to graft in the center after narrowing, which would also stiffen it up some which would be a nice side effect.

There have been numerous threads and posts here and on Benzworld.org and AMG Classics. I think the latter even has pictures and details on donor cars. No real point in regurgitating old ground. Excluding AMG pre-merger cars I don’t know if anyone has done this mod. If you’re going to the headache of this mod you might as well do the 4 corner HPN system. I suspect this mod is in excess of $2k and your labor is free. Most folks won’t even spend that on a whole running car

Anti-squat seemed to be applied only to the shorter wheel base and higher torque cars (big v8s only in r/c107). Fun fact: the euro 380sl got anti-squat while the euro 380slc did not. Euro 4.5, euro 5.0, 5.6 r/c107 all got the Santu-squat. I’m not sure about the 420sl, but assume it did if the euro 380sl did. I think (but don’t know) that any 107 that got SLS would have the anti-squat deleted.

The 5.0 and 5.6 w126 that didn’t have SLS seemed to get anti-squat. I’m not sure about others.

Does your 500sel with 4-wheel hydraulic have anti-squat?

I agree that maybe the w126 anti-squat transfer would be the way to go. Just chop and weld sounds good to me. Weld the cut. Then sleeve it too and weld the sleeve.

Has anyone taken a look at henric’s old 500te AMG to see what it looks like?

Jason (the OP) has a 5000 sqft ship and about 30-40 MB to pick parts from including a 560sl that just needs the rear end removed, otherwise real close to ready for scrapping. We’ve parted out 2 w126 so far, but will probably be doing more in the future.

rwd:

If the underlying question is indeed the one above, then you may wish to remember what Mother Benz calls the linkage: "Starting Torque Compensation". It was installed on cars that 1) had relatively low rate rear springs, and 2) had relatively high torque engines.

A 123 wagon w/SLS, with trailer tongue weight, and with tools and parts in the cargo area, will, via the SLS, have quite a high effective spring rate, and, compared to 5+ liter V8s, low starting torque. The Compensation is probably not necessary.

This wagon has an SLS delete kit. I Have a parts car with it but it's never been tested so swapping non working SLS back in is kinda silly. It's got some beefy rear springs in it fron something else non MB I believe, and w123 sedan shocks which can't handle the springs really, the (_______) I bought it from says one is "blown out" . Its funny the guy that sells the SLS delete kits doesn't even address that . I guess people don't get that springs and shocks are matched to a degree. I'll be putting w126 kyb or heavy duty bilstien shocks to help some. So I'm figuring the anti squat would be helpful with a load or a trailer. On top of that it's going to be seeing a substantial power increase too. I'll be saving for the good(can't recall who builds it at the moment) injection pump and a turbo plus the manual trans frees up considerable power along with 3.23 rear axle ratio with LSD. My only concern about the anti squat with towing is that when I'm essentially doubling the weight of the vehicle(or more) the stresses put on the sway bar mount under acceleration and deceleration are going to be pretty high. The sway bar is the upper control arm and prevents the hub from being able to move fore and aft. It also needs to be pivoting at the correct height for the system to work properly. I've got to measure some things and see if the mount can be beefed up maybe.
