Do you mean like can you just go to a Porsche dealership, buy some random big reds, and throw them on your car? Is so, and you are serious, ummmm, well, no you can not.

If you mean custom fitting some, well, anything is possible for enough $$$.

DTM FAN,

Could you check on that and post it?

Personally I think that if I ever want bigger brakes on my benz, I am going to put benz brakes on it, so I can always get the pads unless of course, other brakes dont squeak so dam* much.

Have you ever put on big brakes from other companies like bremo, etc?

Thanks,

Austin

You may want to check out the KLEEMANN brake kit. It is super-natural. I have installed one of these kits. The rear brake calipers in the kit are larger than the front when the car came off the line.

Exclamation Articles about brakes...

that you might want to read before you spend you're next mortgage payment on a set of massive brakes.

Pretting interesting reading.

The Kleeman brakes run like 8 grand. I may have a c240 but that is not in my budget. I came across a company called ssbrakes that manufacture very good brakes out of aircraft aliuminum.

BIG BRAKES

You can put Big Brakes on just about anything. sometimes just changing calipers on a car will be a big improvement. I have used the Red Porsche calipers on other cars before and have had good results. When going to big brakes it is important to know the pad size area & the Caliper Piston Area so you can calculate the brake torquing force. I have an old Wilwood catalog with a lot of formulas to figure that stuff out. The latest craze in Asia is installing BREMBO calipers from the Nissan Skyline GT-R. They can be had for about $300 a set used. They will fit front rotors 11 - 13" diameter 1" brake disc thickness. Back is 10-12" rotors 3/4" thick. I will try to get pictures and post them.

A good link from a "racer's" perspective is here:
http://www.teamscr.com/grmbrakes.htm

Excerpt:
"In summary, brake system modifications have their place to help make your ride more consistent, predictable, and user-friendly; however, if your ultimate goal is to decrease your stopping distance, look no further than the four palm-sized patches of rubber connecting your ride to the ground."

I agree with the whole tires thing. I mean, my 300E's brakes aren't that good at all, but if you mash that brake pedal down, you are gonna lock up all 4 wheels no problem, and at just about any speed, I say get wider rolling stock first, especially considering mercedes has this thing with putting really skinny tires on just about all of their cars....

235/45/R17 is a really good upgrade, but the rolling diamater is about 4mm bigger.

205/55/R16 is perfect because it doesnt change the ride height.

Neither of them rub.

the 235/45/R17s lock up if you really really get on it. I think they stop pretty fast.

I am currently debating on whether to put on new tires and wheels, something like 18x8. But the brakes will be even more effective with the new rubber.

if you have the money... nice 13-14 inch rotors would look incredibly sweet tucked under your 18 inch rims...

btw.. who drives the sl500? I mean.... your mom has the ml55, and your dad has the cl... so who gets to drive the sl?
