M103/M104 Headers

I just finished the prototype performance header for M103/M104 engines, tell me what you think. Constructed with 304 Stainless steel.

so can u post us some more pix plz, will the m104 one fit the 3.6 AMG unit?

whats your asking price?

But from the pic it seems that 1&3 go to one pipe then all the rest in to the second one. So it seems and thats not how it should be. Plz correct me if i am wrong.

my header project

The headers are 3 into 1, front and rear banks then 2 into 1 to the "CAT" . Important attention to detail include the final phase where the 2 into 1 collector transition uses a 3 degree angle of inclination to savage off as much exhaust as possible. The best effort were taken to produce equal length primary tubes and still fit this comfortable into the space allowed.

I re-read your post and yes these will fit the AMG version of the M104 and M103 engines, they have different flanges to accommodate the oval shape of the 24 valve engine . They will fit the following, 190e 2.6, 300SE. 300CE, 300E, E320, through 1998. The system includes the "CAT bung for the O2 sensor and on newer engines the stock fittings for the emissions return valves have also been included. Initially the project is intended for track and off road use only.

Hey,nice work on the header!
Few questions, where the 3-1 collects usually the pipe is slightly larger than the intial pipe size, did you keep the second part the same size because of space contraints?
Sort of like this:

Is there any dyno time planned before production? would be really interesting to see the results.

Again nice work,
Paul

Paul, that's partly why the outlet size from the 3 into 1 did not change but we could have increased it some but choose to be consistent in size until we got past the 2 into 1 and took advantage of the angle of inclination at the collector transition M103/M104 Headers-ct_304_3degree.jpg. The experts predict that the venturi affect in that final change will accomplish all of the scavenging we could hope for. Time will tell as well as the dyno. Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Can we have the M104 pipe diameters, my concern is that my AMG has larger diameter pipes than your avg M104. So what do you think?
thanks.

Jay, the primary tubes on the prototype are 1.5 inch i.d. and round on the 12 valve M103. The M104 exhaust port is shape like a paper clip and is a bit smaller in height but obviously longer than the 12 valve. Can't say conclusively that the AMG is identical to the stock M104 3.2L 24 valve but there is nothing that I've seen or read to indicate that a completely different head was made for the AMG version. You could help me with that if you have time. Good question.............

Well, ill look into it with details and give you an answer hopefully within the week. What i know is the Amg has the same head as any M104, but some say the exhaust side is slightly improved. i would assume the ports are almost the same like any M104 head its proly got larger pipe diameters on the manifolds.

any way ill check with my mechanic as he has worked with lots of AMG M104 and was the owner of my current car.

The head is the same except the combustion chambers are bigger. The valves however are exactly the same as the 3.2 and 2.8 M104's. The timing is different though, they are probably refering to the position of the exhaust cam.

That looks Neat man, good work.

I still think the that the pipe into which the 3 exhaust pipes go into should have a larger diameter (those 3to1 front and rear) what do you think?
can you dyno the car, and i wish you had done so before, thus we can compare

Ya i know abt the exhaust cam timing thing, but never new all the late M104 shared same valves!!!!!! what the hell did AMG do then to have the C36 cost 53k USD in USA, when the springs are the same as the 280 SPORT and the seats are the Same. so its some engine work and the price jumps some 20k.

this brings up another question, do the M104 2.8 and 3.2 share same exhaust cam??? if not i might want to try a 320 one.
