HELP ! does someone know where the airfilter is

does someone know where the airfilter of the 300 turbo diesel is? eventually with pics please? !!!!


and what the function of it is.............

It will vary somewhat by year. It is probably located on the right side (passengers side on a US/left hand drive model). On the later 80's version, the filter housing is kind of an oval or "racetrack" shaped housing held down with nuts on top.
Later on they went to a square or rectangular shaped housing with clips around the outside perimeter to hold the housing together.
The function of the engine air filter? This is not a difficult concept, it ensures the air the engine is running on contains no or very little dirt, dust, or foreign matter to extend the life of the engine.
