Megasquirt tach out signal

I'm doing a MS2 conversion on a 1992 190E. I'm almost finished with the wiring, one of the little things left is the tachometer wiring. The stock tach got it's signal from the EZL. Since I'm going for fuel and spark control, all the stock components are removed from the car. Anybody knows which type of signal the EZL was outputting? With the MS, I can either build the "regular" circuit for a 0-12V tach, or I can do the other version using a relay coil. I just don't know which one to use!

The circuits are here, pages 41-42:

People who have done this will know what I'm describing! Which circuit did you use to drive your tach? Thanks!

Its been a long time since I built mine, but I did the transistor circuit, not a relay based circuit. I seem to recall I had to futz with it a little to get it to work but not in a big way.
