Michael,

Did you ever find out anything more on the Textar "yellow" used on our cars in Europe? Still sounds ivniting to try

Steve

Steve,

I spoke with Ate about this, and as was explained to me is that a "Textar Yellow Box" was a particular composition that is used by MBZ as orig. equipment on all non U.S. or Japan-delivered cars.

I ended up going with Euro-spec Ate pads (on the box it's indicated that they fit everything from a 600SL to a 2.5-16) and although they produce an average amount of dust, they stop very well and have handled limited track use just fine

Thumbs up

An update, today I ordered a set of front and rear EBC pads for the ML directly from EBC. Rears were 59 and fronts 69 per set. They say it will include everything needed. Only problem is that the pads are back ordered for about 2 weeks. They took my name and # and WCB. Jim, thanks for posing the EBC phone # and all thanks for the great notes about EBC. Am looking foreword to that new brake feel on the ML

No problem and you are welcome...good for you that they have the rears too...I'm going to go with the greens on the front...everything I've heard is positive so far and the price is right. I look forward to less dust on my new rims.

Michael,

Thanks for the update on the pads - Sounds like you are happy at the moment with the Ate solution. Since I am getting ready for my brake system overhaul (flush, new rotors and pads) I might try to get my hands on the yellow box and report what I find. My dealer is reluctant to help me find the yellow box pads - any suggested leads on where to go shopping?

Steve

You can get the yellow-box Textar "Euro composition" pads from Randy at EPS Parts (http://www.epsparts.com).

He doesn't have an on-line ordering system (yet), but you can contact him at:

(805) 683-4020 or +1 (800) 334-2749 fax +1 (805) 683-3689 email sales@epsparts.com

I run the yellow-box Textar's and they are much better than the US dealer supplied pads, esp. at repeated high-speed (they did great at Willow Springs Raceway), but they do produce the dreaded dust, just not as much as factory USA pads.

Neil,

Thanks for the info - I'll give Randy a call next week. On the dust issue, is it tollerable or is it really the same as the originals?

Thanks

Steve

Not as much as the MB factory USA pads. Wheels look filthy with them, with Textar Euro- they're tolerable.

I'll be following through and will let you know my thoughts after they are broken in. I'll be using these with the "frozen" rotors and SS lines so there will be some variables as it relates to the peformance versus stock. The dust is just a PITA!!
