Toying with the idea of a road trip to the west. Are there any
Rocky Mountain 500's that would want to convoy to the San
Rafael get together? Have to check Mapquest and see what
the mileage is. I'm located in downtown Denver.

I'll be there on 9/21, but will *NOT* need a room (family in the Bay Area).

Questions:

1)which car to take, wagon or 500E. . .
2) still meet at Borders in San Rafael? Do we have an exact address?

Sorry, guys; couldn't post a message for a few days. I am working on some great drives, and great eating experiences!
Unfortunately, there really is not much room to let our machines go to their limits, but there sure are some spectacular views and twisties. Sold the BMW motorcycle today. If MB made a motorcycle, it would be a BMW. I wonder why their cars are, uh, different in quality?

Why doesn't everyone who is still planning to come for the event check in again?
By the way, bring the 500E, not the wagon.

Tom

Guido,
I am so sorry - I really feel for you. Like the day I got my 62 Ferrari out of the body shop after five months, and some one rear-ended me at 40mph. Ended up selling the car for parts.
Body shops are a lot better than they used to be - 'll be rooting for you. We'll miss you in San Rafael.

Guido- glad to hear you're physically OK. Have you been following the discussion of "diminished value" of the C43 that go in a wreck?

If not, search for "diminished value" on this site.

You'll also want to make copies of recent pictures of the car, and any dealer ad's with 500E's in them to help set a market price. A call to Tom Bungay of Bungay Appraisels (do a search for "Bungay" on this site as well), might also be helpful.

Good luck, we are all pulling for you.

I'm still tentatively booked to be there. Am doublescheduled on Saturday, and will have to bow out by the early evening to cover a dinner in the East Bay, but I'd really like to meet some of you in person, and to see a couple of other 500Es!

Oh, hey, Guido, sorry about your unfortunate experience.

Glad that you're okay, and glad that your car looks like it can be put back in good order by a good shop. (I assume you know who to see.)

And if you're ever in a -really- big wreck, I hope it's in the 500E -- not for the sake of the car, but for your own safety. All of that extra steel and additional welds really make these things into rolling bank vaults.

Although I like, say, the E55, the one shown at the link below didn't hold up very well. Check out the intrusion around the B-pillar area. Though this vehicle was obviously subjected to quite large forces.

San Rafael GTG

I'll be there, and looking forward to meeting you all!

Tom, what lunch/dinner spots do you have in mind? There's a place in Olema that often hosts the Porsche club. The ride to the coast is gorgeous and I suspect Tomales bay oysters are often on the menu. From Pont Reyes, isn't there a another great drive towards Petaluma, frequented by the motorcyclists? I suspect you know that road well.

For the benefit of out-of-towners, let's firm up the itinerary: is the first meeting at the Borders near the MBZ dealer on Francisco Blvd.? From there, what do you suggest?

Regards,
Bob
