Austin,
With 8.7:1 pistons, I think I'll be able to run 15-20 lbs of boost with a good intercooler and perhaps even water injection. I'm fabbing custom individual throttlebodies and am installing a completely programmable racing ECU (DTAFast E48), so I'll be able to tune it to perfection. I just want to size the turbo so that it'll spool fast. BTW, I'm 19 too and am a die hard DIY freak, as you can probably tell! I'll bet it could be classified as a bona fide psychological problem. I mean, what else would make me do the entire EVO II body conversion completely by myself . Man, I'm a nut. But, I've never started a project that I haven't finished successfully, and I'm not about to start now... :) MB DOC: By the way, I checked the engine number and guess what I found! It's an 84 and the number is 10-000 176. That means that I have the 176th 16V engine ever made! I wonder if that's good or bad... Later, |
Dan,
I'd get even lower compression pistons than that if you want to run that much boost. Right now I am actually working on a quad throttle body intake system for a 190E. Email me, Ill send you pics. Austin |
I am in the middle of doing the turbo upgrade on my 16v. I already have the turbo, wastegate, blow off valve, stand alone fuel management, and 65lb injectors....
I have fabricated a custom intake. I will post pics when complete. I was tig welding on it 20 minutes ago! I am going with a box design. Pics will follow... BTW, the turbo is a TE44 with a .63 exhaust. With the 9.0 compression and stand alone fuel and ignition, I am planning to run 15 psi and get about 420 crank HP. |
420 HP at the crank!
Incredible. Pure evil...  |
Benzmac! That's awesome! What have you done to the engine internals? What about the tranny/rear end? I'd love to have that much power, but I don't want to be constantly breaking things! The ever-pressing question is: how high can you go before things start to blow...
Later, |
I guess I am going to find out where and what the break point is.
|
hehe. Unfortunately, I don't have the resources to be toying around near that point...Good luck!
Later, |
I found the resources

BTW the thickness of a crushed head gasket is 1.75mm.
ONLY Goetze is OE on the head gsaket, if you buy an Elring set it will come with a Goetze gasket. |
Thanks MB Doc!!
Are there any upgraded gaskets available? What should I do to handle to increased power? What about o-ringing the block? Benzmac, what are you doing in this regard? Later, |
With my stand alone fuel and ignition management, I don't plan on blowing head gaskets often. I am using the factory part.
