placo1 07-17-2002 02:05 PM

Rich,

That looks perfect on your car. Does it sound like Alon's car? Nice work, look forward to seeing it at the end of August.

mushedroom 07-17-2002 02:08 PM

hey afshin,

sounds growlishly awesome...i love how at idle it's not too loud and when i accelerate at slow speeds, it gives out a digitalish sounding lion's gutteral growl...

perfect amount of sound...

placo1 07-17-2002 02:10 PM

mushedroom 07-17-2002 02:16 PM

right on
on july 27, i'm going to be getting an amp and a box put into my car...possibly upgrade the door subs to a better sounding bass... i think i'll keep the dash and rear speakers stock though cause i like their positioning...
any tidbits on where to mount amp? (i know not to do it behind the seats cause our gas tank is there - thanks alon for the info.)
i don't think i'm going to port though through the rear deck...unless i can do it without doing too much damage...
hmmm

mushedroom 07-17-2002 02:16 PM

anyone know how many amps our stock speakers can take?

placo1 07-17-2002 02:22 PM

Actually if your going to put a Sub in your trunk I'd suggest the following.

1. Install the amp up underneath your rear deck, or directly onto the box if you want to prevent any drilling. You may also mount the amp under your rear seat as long as you know that amp will not be used near it's full capacity. You need to remember that adequate cooling is required if the amp is mounted upside down or underneath your seats so oversizing the amp would help.

2. Don't change the door speakers, just put caps on them so they only emit midbass.

3. Install Rainbow front speakers which go into the factory location without any mods and upgrade your Treble and midrange sound. LaJolla Audio has these speakers for about $120/Pair I believe.

4. In order for the Bass to really pass through your trunk you will need to port it, thats up to you to decide though.

mushedroom 07-17-2002 02:23 PM

is yours ported?
alon's is ...
i wonder if hi-power's is....hmmm

MUYAMAN 07-17-2002 03:58 PM

Sweet looking muffler! Is that the same arospeed model that Alon has? I am definitely seriously looking into that one. Did they have to do any bending to get it into place, or just saw and weld?

mushedroom 07-17-2002 04:08 PM

hey muya...did you talk your dad into the muffler?
the one i have is actually a little fatter in the tips and has an angled forward cut....
ashman and hi-power both have the thinner tips...and ashman has the straight cut..no angle forward.....

mushedroom 07-17-2002 04:09 PM

ashman has his muffler aligned flush with the bumper (so his sticks out a little more) his looks aggressively sporty...hi-power and i have ours aligned with the lower lines of the bottom of the bumper which angle down towards the tire...so they're a little more subtle...

MUYAMAN 07-17-2002 04:20 PM

Haven't talked him into letting me do it yet, but I have hope ;)

Need to get the rims on first. I had thought that my car had 15" 8-holes on them, but it turns out that they are 16's. Which means that the rim cash outlay is about $500, and I can slap the 2 month old Dunlop SP's on the new wheels without having to buy a new set. I think the wheels are pretty much a lock for this summer.

As for the muffler, it seems like a pretty easy thing to do to really make the car stand out for only 200 bucks. I like the mounting a little bit back like you have it, a little less in-your-face (although your's looks REALLY good too Alon, not a knock, just a personal preference on my part).

And I too am looking at fixing up the bass in my car, I think I'm going to give a shot to the mounting in the wheel well and removing the rear speakers to make a port. The sealed 12 I had in a box with no port into the cabin really had issues. I'm convinced that I blew my 100W/channel amp because I had the gain all the way up, and the bass boosted on the head unit just to get some sound into the cabin. Those trunks really are unbelievable in terms of their ability to seal in bass.

Keep me posted on your projects, I would love to hear how you guys are going about the sub approach. I'll try to keep you guys updated on what I'm doing, and pictures will be key in learning/explaining how you went about things. Thanks!

Jordan

Ashman 07-17-2002 04:53 PM

I mounted mine flush like that in anticipation of a bodykit. then I will move it as needed. :)

mushedroom 07-17-2002 04:57 PM

MUYAMAN 07-18-2002 08:17 AM

Mushedroom -- I gotta say, your lights are about as pimp as can be. What are the parts needed to do that, where did you get them, and about how much did it run you to have all of that done, if you don't mind my asking. Thanks!

Jordan

mushedroom 07-18-2002 02:28 PM

hey jordan...

i got my tails from Ken over at Importvision.com....
he's the coolest...

as for price, he's the best priced out there...way way lower than anyone i've seen, and his product is good quality stuff....

the tails i bought were german made and spec tints....

but i got a good deal cause i did a whole package deal with tails, euro headlights, side markers and bulbs....
but call him and tell him i sent you and he'll hook ya up....

Ashman 07-18-2002 05:49 PM

hehe or tell him Alon sent you. :) since I sent rich there anyway :) LOL

So MR Woo Hoo, we got something planned for this weekend?

Neil Richardson 09-17-2002 02:05 PM

Hi there.

Nice muffler!! I asked Ashman where he got his from about 6 weeks ago. He told me he got his from ebay - Thanks Ashman, Good tip. After thinking about it I went on ebay and bought the Arospeed (AMG Tip). Are they the ones you have? My question is simple. The muffler didn't come with any brakets - how do I fix it onto the car?

I've attached the only picture I have of mine at the moment, but once I've got the exhaust on, I'll post one of the back.

Kind regards,

mushedroom 09-17-2002 02:10 PM

hey neil,

no brackets...
when you take it to the muffler shop, they'll have all the hardware to do the install.

mushedroom 09-17-2002 02:10 PM

and yes i have the angled AMG tips...

ashman has the non-angled rectangle tips...

mushedroom 09-17-2002 02:13 PM

hey neil,
no pic?

what kind of benzie do you have?

Neil Richardson 09-17-2002 02:35 PM

Ops, sorry sticky fingers. I've got a 1991 W124 300CE-24 with sportline suspension and a five speed box. Rated at 230bhp.

The first picture was too big. I've made it smaller.

Neil Richardson 09-17-2002 02:42 PM

Still too big. Let's see if this works. . . . . . .

mushedroom 09-17-2002 03:32 PM

wow you've got the 5 spd. manual?

me and ashman are totally lusting after that car's tranny....
lol

Neil Richardson 09-17-2002 03:48 PM

yeah. I like it too. Don't need to change up to 5th until 120mph!! Gas is pretty expensive over here so I don't do it much. It has an interesting layout. first gear is bottom left as opposed to top left which is the norm for sticks.

Holson Adi 09-17-2002 05:29 PM

5-speed 300E-24's and 300CE-24's are pretty common in Indonesia. In fact Automatic is considered an option and not many people want it simply because it's more money....and almost every car in Indonesia is a stick anyway...

Neil Richardson 09-18-2002 12:35 PM

Very true. In Europe that model and most smaller ones come as standard in manual. Except for the UK. manuals are rare over 2 liter engine capacity.

Mine is LHD bought in germany.

Hey guys! looks like I can't get hold of the bracket to fit the Arospeed rear muffler to my car - asked several shops over here and ll have said it would be a special. Any ideas where I could buy the bracket to fit? :)

mushedroom 09-18-2002 01:12 PM

hey neil,
sounds like they're trying to get more money from you...
there is no "special" bracket persay..
all it is is a rod that has been bent and then welded to the top of your muffler which is then connected to the chassis of your car....

if you need it, i will post some pics of the under mounting portion and bracket, which should be supplied by any pro muffler shop...

Neil Richardson 09-18-2002 01:51 PM

:p Thanks very much for the offer. I'm taking the car to a few more shops tomorrow to see what they say - will let you know what they say later on in the week.

craiggotgame 09-19-2002 12:32 AM

Sweet exhaust. That is the exact same one that I got on mine. I had it done about a month ago. I trimmed the thin black plastic under my bumper so it sits up higher. It looks stock and and you can only see the tips. Be careful though, I wasnt used to having an exhast that sticks out any from my car and I burned the crap out of my leg after a 5 hour trip back from Illinois, ouch!

Neil, when you take the exhaust to the shop to be put on. They use hangers that they weld onto the side of the exhaust to hold it on. Every muffler shop does this, with any aftermarket universal muffler.

Neil Richardson 09-19-2002 11:41 AM

;) Thanks for bothboth pieces of advice.

300CEpimp 04-08-2003 09:49 PM

Where did you get that muffler, becuase I want one man. If you could help me out it would be appreciated.

mushedroom 04-08-2003 09:50 PM

you can get them online.

300CEpimp 04-08-2003 09:57 PM

ZorroAMG 04-09-2003 01:22 AM

this may be a little late but as far as subs in a 124 go, I have had a bit of experience getting sufficient bass to travel into the passenger compartment:

regular box does nothing.

Ports under the headrests w/out tubes from the box are a bit better

Ports under headrests with tubes connecting to the box in a bandpass format are quite good but the best so far is:

Cut out the Emergency kit and mount the sub directly to the back deck...you may use a box...but to save trunk space I mounted my 12" free air and it is all the base one could need. Get a sufficiently powerful AMP and it will be great...

One thing...ask the best audio shop tech you know which sub he recommends for a free air application...my phoenix gold kinda "farts" and would sound better with one designed for free air...

Hope that helps...I can provide pics if needed...

ZorroAMG 04-09-2003 01:25 AM

And I forgot to mention....the flip cover for the emerg kit remains attached, hiding any sign of stereo..STEALTH....use velcro to keep the flap from vibrating form the bass...

Put the useless emerg kit in the spare tire ....

wby300 04-09-2003 01:44 AM
