Michael, which event are you going to?
I prefer nitrile gloves over latex. Nitrile are blue in color and they are resistant to lots of fluids that normally get though latex, and I dont like the feel of latex. I have these things that I call german socket sets, they are made by knipex, I posted about this earlier, but you can see them here http://www.knipex.com/ You can get them from snapon. Also snapons line, blue point makes this tire gauge for 25 bucks that lets air out when you push the button, so you can get tire pressures precise. http://buy.snapon.com/catalog/pro_det.asp?tool=all&item%5FID=12311&group%5FID=1665&group%5Fname=Dial%2Dtype+Pressure+Gauges&sub%5Fcat%5FID=1168460&sub%5Fcat%5Fname=Tire+Pressure&cat%5FID=1168430&cat%5Fname=Tire+And+Wheel&store=snapon%2Dstore&dir=catalog All that stuff that you bring to the track make sure you have a place to put it because they wont let you race with all that stuff. LIke for 1/4 mile races you have have any liquids in your trunk. Maybe you should bring sunscreen, umbrella/canopy, but tie it down so it doesnt hurt other people's cars. Check to see if your brake lines are good before you go because you are going to be on them. Maybe get SS lines or some new mercedes lines in case. I would put those on befor eyou go because its so hard to bleed brakes by yourself. Have fun, Austin

Austin/all,
A few things. First off, my next track event will be Starfest in Indianapolis 8/11...hope to see some of you guys there. Brakes can be bled solo easily, assuming you have some sort of power-bleeder device (I use the one by Motive Products). However, I flush my fluid 1-2 times a year (usually right before the first track event of the year), so it's never very old. And the brake lines on my car are new (though I carry an extra line just in case) I agree with you on the tire gauge-having the quick release feature is nice (I just bought one of this variety) As to where to keep everything, I put it all in a big Rubbermaid container that, along with a cooler full of H2O, I use to mark my turf in the paddock. Thanks for the suggestions!

Good list, Michael
I've got my own list on the computer to print before going to an event b/c at my age it is easy to forget something! The list is broken into categories such as support for car, support for me, tools, etc. Some items are expanded that a street car wouldn't normally need such as plugs, plug wires, hose clamps, duct tape,
DVM, wire, wire crimps, wire strippers, wood blocks, etc. I also take a small first aid kit, waterless hand cleaner, ground cover (or an old blanket) and pylons to mark my 'territory' and good for safety on the highway if needed. During these hot months I bring a fan and extension cord along with a five gallon jug of water. Great to cool down at the end of the day....strip to your shorts and pour over your head! Good racin' Tobias MB 4 MBs |
