Late E55 tail lamps have smoked turn signal and back up lamp lenses and all other late 210's have clear turn and back up lenses. I installed the 00 and later E55 units into my wife's '96 E320 last summer. You will need all four lamps to make it look right (both outside and both that are on the trunk lid). You will also need to modify the rear fog lamp and back up lamp reflectors as MB changed the trunk lid design and they will hit early trunk lid reinforcements. I heated mine up with a butane torch and carefully reshaped them until they fit correctly. The wiring plugs right in. My wife's car is black/black with tinted windows and the lights look great! God Luck!

do a search on mbworld's forums for this, there was an extremely long post with pics of how to do this tail light installation by lorinserlv2 I believe. I did this myself on my '99 e-class, using a dremel tool to shave off the excess plastic and make the trunk portion of the tail lights fit. The outside ones bolt right in. The butane torch idea seems pretty cool, scary to me though, not being an expert mechanic by any means, and I dont have any butane torches laying around regardless.. Good luck!
