Performance Camshaft Question

I was looking around at a mercedes tuning site.. I forget witch,,, It was Renntech or Brabus, and i noticed the Performance Camshafts.

To me, it doesnt seem like a higher performance camshaft would lessen the life of an engine, or put it under any additional stress, Am I right in this assumption???

If I am right why doest mercedes put more aggresive camshafts in the engine to begin with? surely It wouldnt cost anymore than the existing camshafts,, because they are only a different shape right?

What car & engine?? MB uses cams that allow the engines to obtain about 90% of their total capabilities! Many MB engines will rev to 6500+.

Often times performance cams offer more power at the cost of driveability and smoothness. For example, shifting your torque band to peak at higher RPMs will increase your peak horsepower but hurt your low end and midrange acceleration. This might be advantageous in WOT situations or at the track, but it wouldn't help much in normal driving. It's a tradeoff. Considering Mercedes builds luxury cars, it makes sense that the factory cams are tuned more for daily driving (low/mid range).
